Gyaarah Gyaarah (Season 1) Series Review

Gyaarah Gyaarah is a thrilling police drama from India that uses the mysterious concept of overlapping time from the past and the present, to solve crimes and to catch criminals.

The Hindi language title “ग्यारह ग्यारह of this Indian show means “Eleven Eleven or 11.11”. So, the number eleven (11) holds a lot of importance in its central plot and basic storyline.

The Synopsis/Summary

In the years 1990, 2001 and 2016, three pivotal (crime) events occurred in this Indian cop drama, structured around them. Thus, this crime drama spans across years. Two police officers, one from the present and the other from the past, work together to solve a murder mystery and cold cases with the help of a mysterious walkie-talkie.

The notion of time manipulation is central to the plot, affecting reality and implying that any information exchanged between two (or three) different periods has far-reaching consequences for everyone involved in it. The narrative of this series weaves together various storylines that merge elements of mysticism, science, fantasy, and enigma throughout the decades.

After the release of Kill (2024) movie, Karan Johar and Guneet Monga are set to collaborate for a second time in this 2024 series on ZEE5, with Raghav Juyal featured in both works.

Please note that we are not sharing further spoilers (story and plot details) from this fantasy crime drama, as they might ruin your viewing pleasure.

Dhairya Karwa (Shaurya Anthwal), Raghav Juyal (Yug Arya), Kritika Kamra (Vamika Rawat) - actors/actress (chracters) from the Left to the Right in the poster.

Both the police officials Vamika Rawat (Kritika Kamra) and Yug Arya (Raghav Juyal) are living in the year 2016; on the other hand, the cop Shaurya Anthwal (Dhairya Karwa) moves from the year 1990 and year 2001 in the show. The two cops Yug and Shaurya are somehow able to communicate using outdated walkie-talkie, and solve the cold-cases.

Also, the use of 11:11 time seemed pertinent to its plot

A clock or timestamp displays the time 11:11, which many widely believe holds significant meaning for divine guidance and manifestation capabilities. One can interpret this occurrence as acknowledging a higher power’s guidance and connecting spiritually with the universe. So, the show’s title and central theme draw heavily on this widely held belief among the people.

In the realm of numerology, the significance of 1111 as an angel number is profound. The number 11 is regarded as a "Master Number," symbolizing intuition, aspirations, and the influence of spiritual guidance. This number indicates that a significant transformation is approaching. Additionally, the arrangement of the four consecutive 1's resembles the "Four of Wands" in Tarot, suggesting that it represents what is destined for you.

We have seen movies/series with similar themes in the past, but…

While watching this Indian show, we were reminded of the Frequency (2000) movie from Hollywood, which features a similar cross-time radio link. More recently, the Signal (시그널/Sigeuneol/ 2016) series from South Korea had a similar plotline spanning three decades and the use of special walkie-talkies to communicate.

But, after watching this series we believe that like the Shekhar Home (2024) series, this ZEE5 series has been smartly adapted and Indianized by its writers. The setting of the crime tale is Dehradun and other places of Uttarakhand, a North Indian state. No doubt, this Himalayan state adds elements of freshness and surprise to its crime tales. The writers Puja Banerji, Sunjoy Shekhar and Sameer Saral Sharma have done a fairly good job. Besides, the direction of the series by Umesh Bist is taut and right-paced.

The lead actress, lead actors and ensemble cast have been impressive

We loved the performance of Kritika Kamra (Vamika Rawat) in the show. In addition, both Raghav Juyal (Yug Arya) and Dhairya Karwa (Shaurya Anthwal) have worked hard to make it a believable crime show. After the Kill (2024) movie, it seems that Raghav Juyal is growing from strength to strength with his acting performances.

Nitesh Pandey (Balwant Singh), Harsh Chhaya (Sameer Bhatiya), Gautami Kapoor (Sanjana Tiwari/Aditi’s Mother), Sachin Kumar (Birju), Vidushi Manaduli (Birju’s Mother), Vivek Zamana (Mahesh), etc. are the rest of the ensemble cast. Most of them are experienced professional actors/actresses, who were impressive.

The conclusion

It is a good suspenseful show to watch. The concept of time has been beautifully explored in this fantasy show. Even the intersection of past and present time frames seemed credible and conceivable in this crime drama. To sum up and conclude, this mysterious crime tale kept us hooked with many twists and turns. Also, the cliffhanger ending in the season finale is mindboggling. Now, we eagerly await its second season.
