Jo Tera Hai Woh Mera Hai (2024) Movie Review

Jo Tera Hai Woh Mera Hai is a Hindi comedy movie from India, that explores the theme of insatiable greed. This modern tale takes place in Mumbai, the proverbial city of dreams.

While watching this film, we were reminded of the ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla!‘ (2006) movie set in Delhi (NCR) city. However, we must clarify that the stories of these two films are different.

The synopsis/summary

The story is a slice-of-life comedy featuring Mitesh Meghani (Amit Sial), a humble tea seller who seeks to transform his life through greed and ambition. So, in a misguided effort to secure his family’s love, he attempts to con an old man, Govinda (Paresh Rawal), out of his home. His poorly conceived reverse mortgage plan quickly deteriorates when the old man Govinda refuses to die, leading to Mitesh’s past actions catching up with him. As a result, Mitesh is compelled to engage in increasingly erratic behaviour to rediscover the essential aspects of his life.

A predictable storyline with silly plot twists

Notably, the story of this film delves into the harsh social realities of India, wherein older people often become the target of greedy conmen or con women in India. Of late, such crimes driven by ravenous greed have started to make their presence felt in India. Perhaps, this moment is driven by the unabashed consumerism of the Capitalist economy.

Still, while watching it, we felt that the film had a (somewhat) predictable storyline. Moreover, even some of the comedy scenes in the film were spoiled by the silly plot twists.

Good performance by Paresh Rawal (Govinda), Amit Sial (Mitesh Meghani) & others

The protagonist Govinda (played by Paresh Rawal), as well as the antagonist Mitesh Meghani (played by Amit Sial), have worked hard to make it a highly entertaining comedy film. Moreover, this film has a high-quality ensemble cast, viz., Sonali Kulkarni (Rukmini Meghani), Faisal Malik (Rajan), Nitesh Pandey (Mehmood), Sonnalli Seygall (Preeti), etc. Indeed, all of them performed well in this film. Perhaps, that is one of the redeemable aspects of this Hindi comedy film.

The conclusion

However, given its weak script, the comedy did not elicit the desired level of peals of laughter. Still, despite its flaws, we think, it is an okay film to pass your time on holiday.
