The Wild Robot (2024/USA) Movie Review

The Wild Robot is a lovely and highly imaginative animated film. It is about a robot ‘Roz’, lost on a remote island populated by wild animals. But then, ‘Roz’ finds pals and life goals.

It is worth noting that this 2024 computer-animated film is based on “The Wild Robot” a 2016 book by Peter Brown. Author Peter disclosed that his book concept originated from a drawing he created of a robot situated in a tree. This led him to ponder, “What actions would an intelligent robot take in a natural environment?”

The storyline

Is it possible for a robot to endure in a natural and untamed environment?

The thrilling saga recounts the experiences of a she-robot referred to as ROZZUM unit 7134, or “Roz” (Lupita Nyong’o). After being shipwrecked on an isolated island, Roz is tasked with the challenge of adjusting to the severe conditions. She eventually develops relationships with the island’s wild inhabitants and becomes the caretaker of a forsaken gosling (Boone Storm & Kit Connor).

Rozzum is a name that finds its roots in the Slavic language, specifically from the word 'rozum,' signifying 'brain, intellect, or rationality.'

When she-robot Roz awakens for the first time, she realizes she is alone on a secluded and wild island. She is unaware of how she came to be there or what her purpose is, yet she recognizes the necessity of survival. Following a tumultuous storm and a close encounter with a ferocious bear, she understands that her only chance of survival lies in her capacity to adjust to her surroundings and learn from the island’s unfriendly animal inhabitants. With each passing day, as Roz develops connections with the animals, the island increasingly resembles a home; yet, one fateful day, the shadows of the robot’s mysterious past emerge to confront her.

Peter Brown’s ingenious tale and Chris Sanders’ creative movie direction

We loved the ingenious ‘The Wild Robot‘ tale by Peter Brown focusing on a highly intelligent and emotionally advanced robot. Moreover, we cherished the intelligent screenplay and creative ‘The Wild Robot’ movie direction by Chris Sanders. He has used animation to paint a stunning illustrative painting-like movie.

In the past, we have seen and admired How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Lilo & Stitch, written and directed by Chris Sanders.

Pinktail: Oh! Okay... hello. Umm... this gosling is yours.

Roz: Negative. That gosling stalks me, and makes noise and makes simple tasks more complicated, or impossible.

Now, his latest The Wild Robot (2024) movie is a powerful and emotional tale about a she-Robot. Here, ‘Raz’ (Lupita Nyong’o) develops benevolence and humanness while caring for a baby Goose. It fascinatingly delves into the unlikely interactions and cooperation between the hi-tech machine robot and the wild animals (birds), while living in a natural forest area. Then, they all become a part of a big family living on an island.

Roz: I do not have the programming to be a mother.

Pinktail: No one does. We just make it up.

We have shared the two sets of dialogues above, that we have liked. This movie is filled with similar smart one-liners. Such interactions made it a highly entertaining film to watch.

Some of the top-class actors have performed as Voice Artists in animated movie

Interestingly, it was heart-warming to watch the unbelievable character arc of the highly evolved robot ‘Roz’ (Lupita Nyong’o) in The Wild Robot (2024) movie. We were bowled over by the she-robot ‘Roz’ who developed motherly instincts while completing the tasks of caring for and raising a baby goose Brightbill (Boone Storm & Kit Connor), with active assistance from his wild creature friends from the jungle.

Wild Voices – The Wild Robot (2024/USA) Movie – Universal Pictures | YouTube.
It marks Lupita Nyong'o's inaugural experience in voice acting for a complete animated film.

These wild creatures have been given voices by some well-known artists. For example, Pedro Pascal (fox Fink), Catherine O’Hara (opossum Pinktail), Bill Nighy (goose Longneck), Kit Connor (gosling Brightbill), Stephanie Hsu (Vontra, a robot), etc. Along with Lupita, all of these actors have done a tremendous job of making these characters realistic and relatable.
