Turbo movie is a delightful action comedy, that rides high on the broad shoulders of the superstar Mammootty. Originally, this movie was made in the Malayalam language.
Now, the “Turbo” has been dubbed in other languages and released on the OTT platform. A few months ago, we watched and admired the praiseworthy acting performance of Mammootty in the Bramayugam (2024) movie. Now, in complete contrast, Mammootty plays a soft-hearted do-gooder hero in this mass-entertainer masala commercial film from India.

The synopsis/summary
Jose, the protagonist portrayed by Mammootty, is a jeep driver living in a small hill town in the Idukki district of Kerala state. One day, because of his helping nature, he finds himself in a difficult situation that compels him to move to the capital city of Chennai in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu state. There, he becomes involved with a complex matter concerning Indulekha (Anjana Jayaprakash) and his close friend, Jerry (Shabareesh Varma). In Chennai, Jose encounters a series of unexpected events, including the arrival of the powerful antagonist Vetrivel (Raj B. Shetty) and others.
We liked the action & comedy in this predictable tale
Turbo is a typical South Indian masala movie that has the right ingredients and a good dosage of action and comedy. The film boasts a diverse range of high-octane action sequences. The choreography of these complex and elaborate fight sequences has been done with a lot of care and enthusiasm. After a long gap, we saw a lengthy sequence of a car (or an SUV) chase in an Indian cinema. And, no wonder, that vehicle scenes were turbocharged to attract the movie viewers who love such action shots.
In case, you take a closer look then, you might notice that the background colours (and music) change with the character(s). The movie director Vysakh has given us the latest hit mass entertainer that tickles our funny bones as well as amazes us with awesome action scenes. The infusion and sprinkling of comedy scenes in this action-dominated film were almost perfect. Even while the serious fight scene was on, a few comedic dialogues were enough to make one laugh. The original soundtrack (check YouTube) of this movie suits the mood.
Mammootty made this film highly entertaining
Firmly rooted in the Kerala culture, the hero Mammootty looked the part in his perfect dhoti (mundu/veshti/lungi) attire. And whenever he folds his dhoti to his knee level, then it means that Jose is all set to fight the goons. In this mass-entertaining movie, one does not have to tax one’s brain unnecessarily. The movie audience has to simply surrender to the fascinating charm of Mammootty and his Jose character. This turbocharged Jose is a one-man army. So, Jose is a simple-hearted man, who is willing to risk his life for the good of others.
"Jose" has a familiar sounding word in hindi "Josh" (जोश), which means heat, boiling, spark, zeal, passion, enthusiasm, fervour, warmth, vigour, etc.
Not so long ago, we watched Mammootty enact the role of a sinister villain in the Bramayugam (2024) movie, perfectly. Now, in this film, he is a larger-than-life hero with a great sense of humour and greater fighting abilities. His acting range is just phenomenal. The rest of the ensemble cast played their parts well too. We especially liked the lovely Anjana Jayaprakash (Indulekha), comical Sunil (Auto Billa) and dangerous Raj B. Shetty (Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram).
The conclusion
The surprising cliffhanger ending of the Turbo movie means that we are going to see more of Jose in the future. And given the fact that we enjoyed this time-pass commercial film immensely, we look forward to its sequel. Till then, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the Turbo ride.
