Diary of a Ditched Girl (Season 1/2025) takes an honest and playful look at the complicated love life of a young lady in Sweden. So, Amanda (Carla Sehn) is the protagonist of this Swedish comedy series, who lives in Malmö, a coastal city in southern Sweden. Amanda is only a 31-year-old, yet she considers herself old.
As a result, Amanda is becoming almost desperate to find the love of her life. Especially, because even her younger sister Adina (Moah Madsen) has found her soulmate and a steady boyfriend in Malmö. Furthermore, not only her love life but also her family life (mother, father, step-mother, etc.) is far too complicated.
This series is rated TV-MA, which means it is intended for Mature Audiences (MA) only.

Spoiler Free Series Review: Diary of a Ditched Girl (Season 1/Swedish)
This 2025 dramedy is based on a 2021 book
The Swedish author Amanda Romare published her debut (fiction) novel in 2021. Now in 2025, Netflix has released this original Swedish comedy-drama show based on the said book. Amusingly, the English translation of the (book & show) title “Halva Malmö består av killar som dumpat mig” means “Half of Malmö consists of guys who dumped me.” Isn’t that a hilarious book title? So, as the Diary of a Ditched Girl series (as well as the original book) suggests, either Amanda, the heroine of this tale, is very unlucky in love, or perhaps she keeps on making silly mistakes in her life. Well, you all watch it and then decide. Okay.
We have mostly watched the Nordic crime dramas in the past. So, this bold and beautiful comical love life of a young Swedish woman pleasantly surprised us. It takes an irreverent and unabashed look at life on the wrong side of thirty for a lady, especially. With each passing day, the (biological) clock is simply ticking away.
The oficial synopsis & more
Meet Amanda (Carla Sehn): 31, single, and diving headfirst into the wild world of modern dating. Swipes, flings, heartbreaks—nothing’s off-limits in her quest for love. She navigates the complexities of modern dating through apps and bars, meeting diverse men. She and her friends struggle to move beyond first dates as they explore the dynamics of finding love. With her friends by her side, every date is a new adventure (and potential disaster). So, the hook-ups, app encounters and chaotic men -- dating isn't easy for Amanda. But despite being dumped by half of Malmö, she still isn't ready to give up. But why is finding love so hard? (That is a million-dollar question, isn't it?)
Even the title of some of the episodes offers a peek into the kind of young (and not-so-young) men that Amanda is going to meet in the first season of this dramedy. For instance, The Consultant, The Bartender, The Neighbour, etc. Also, we learn about what methods she is going to use, viz., Speed Dating, Tinder, etc.
So, what did we like in this Swedish dramedy?
We have grown up in the Eastern society (of Asia), so it is quite a steep learning experience for us to watch the ways of the Western society (of Europe) on-screen. Therefore, some of the scenes (and plotlines) in this show totally shocked us. Maybe, because of our differences in the realms of social and cultural traditions.
This bold and entertaining dramedy is based on the simple universal premise of finding LOVE in the twenty-first century. In this IT age, there are so many LOVE options available, both in the online and offline worlds. The Tinder algorithms did not help Amanda. Even the proximity to her neighbour failed to spark love. The show offers a dark insight into the insane lengths that desperate people like Amanda go to find the one true love of her life. However, in her quest for love, she is not alone. It seems that there are enough lovelorn folks like Amada in Malmö. Even Emil Wester (Johannes Lindkvist) is finding it hard to find his soul mate.
We also liked the heartfelt and dedicated performances of the lead actress, Carla Sehn (Amanda), in this show. In fact, because of her wonderful acting, we could sense the hopelessness and longing in the character of Amanda. Being a protagonist, the show totally focused on her life. And, no doubt, she really pulled it off.
In addition to her, Moah Madsen (Adina), Johannes Lindkvist (Emil Wester), Isac Calmroth (Filip) and other members of the ensemble cast played their supporting roles quite well. Moreover, it is fascinating to note that the “Diary of a Ditched Girl” show has perhaps made “Malmö” a much more famous tourist destination.
To conclude, is Amanda unlucky in love?
So, is this Swedish comedy drama like a sour dish or a sweet dish? Well, to answer it honestly, it is a little bit of both. The Swedish dish often turned sour for us whenever we saw the sadness and heartbreak in Amanda’s face. But we tasted the sweet dish when, finally, we thought that Amanda had found the love of her life in the end. And then came the suspenseful last scene in the season finale episode. Is it another heartbreak for Amanda? Is Amanda unlucky in love? Or are we imagining the worst for her? Given her penchant for destroying her love life, with her own mistakes. To err is human, as the famous saying goes.
Still, we are keeping our fingers crossed, as we eagerly await season two of this funny Rom-Com from one of the Nordic nations. Meanwhile, enjoy this Nordic Rom-Com targeted at Gen Y, Gen Z and others. Isn’t it always better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? Are we right, Amanda?
