Nobody 2 (USA/2025) is a predictable action thriller movie from Hollywood. A few years ago, we had already met the protagonist, Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk), in his prequel, Nobody (2021/USA), a movie. As the title “Nobody” suggests, it depicts Hutch as an ordinary family man, a dedicated dad and a loving husband.
But, herein lies the twist in the tale. It seems that the angry middle-aged hero of this action-packed Hollywood flick, Hutch Mansell, is a very well-trained assassin. Not much is disclosed about his colourful past life; however, there is no doubt that he is a phenomenal combatant. To some extent, he is like a one-man army.

The introduction
Before we start talking about the “Nobody 2” movie, let us talk about the creator of the “Nobody” character, Derek Kolstad. So, Derek has written the screenplays for the “Nobody” and “Nobody 2” movies. Moreover, Derek is famously known as the architect of the John Wick movie universe. Not to forget, he is also a writer of the latest Ballerina movie. Therefore, all of these action movies boast of an assassin, a criminal underbelly, highly creative action sequences, as well as closely choreographed fight scenes. Besides, in the “Nobody and Nobody 2” movies, one could enjoy their comedic dark humour.
In the “Nobody” movie, we see Hutch Mansell, a suburban dad and former lethal assassin, is thrust back into his violent past after he foils a home invasion, leading to a chain reaction that reveals secrets concerning both his wife Becca’s history and his own. Now, in the “Nobody 2” movie, the trouble finds him again.
Bob Odenkirk – the lead actor surprised us
Bob Odenkirk plays the protagonist, Hutch Mansell, with a lot of panache and gumption. In the past, we have seen Bob Odenkirk in series such as How I Met Your Mother (2008-2012), Breaking Bad (2009-2013), Fargo (2014), and Better Call Saul (2015-2022), among others. For many of his fans like us, Bob was an actor primarily known for dramatic and comedic roles. Then, it all changed with his hard-hitting performance as an action star in Nobody (2021). We were pleasantly surprised, as we simply could not believe his on-screen persona of an action hero.
While portraying the deadly assassin Hutch, Bob looked so confident and convincing that we found it difficult to take our eyes off the screen. Later, we learnt that Bob followed a remarkably tough and extensive physical training plan for months for the first ‘Nobody’ film, acquiring martial arts and combat skills to perform the majority of his stunts. Now, concerning this ‘Nobody 2’ film, he is said to be continuing his rigorous training, demonstrating Bob’s dedication to preserving the authenticity and brutality of the fight scenes. This is praiseworthy on his part.
Timo Tjahjanto – the new director brings his personal style and touch
Nobody 2 movie brings on board a new director, Timo Tjahjanto. Interestingly, this Hollywood movie is Timo’s American directorial debut. It is worth noting that Timo is famous for his exceptionally violent Indonesian action movies, notably Headshot (2016), The Night Comes for Us (2018), and The Shadow Strays (2024). As a result of Timo’s personal touch and style, this movie has more intense fight sequences. So, we get to see much more of the unique action and visual style from the Mansell family members as well as the other key characters.
The first ‘Nobody’ movie, directed by Ilya Naishuller, had the clear advantage of surprising us by enlisting Bob Odenkirk to play the new-age action hero. So, to be honest, the first movie was slightly better than the second one, maybe because of the novelty factor. Also, the tighter script did help it to take it a notch above.
Because of scheduling conflicts, Ilya Naishuller was unable to take up the director's chair again. He was already involved in directing the action-comedy "Heads of State" (2025), featuring John Cena and Idris Elba, for Amazon, which we reviewed on FM this week.
In ‘Nobody 2’, it is apparent that the writer Derek Kolstad is introducing a fresh bunch of new action stars to us, viz., Connie Nielsen (Becca Mansell), RZA (Harry Mansell), Christopher Lloyd (David Mansell), Gage Munroe (Brady Mansell), etc. So, most likely, we might see them in action in Nobody’s future instalments.
The conclusion
One of the major drawbacks of ‘Nobody 2’ was the fact that a familiar storyline in this Hollywood action film. Then, the progression of the plotlines is predictable too. However, a high-quality action sequence and the sprinkling of dark comedy kept us engaged. For an action movie buff, it is a decent time-pass movie.

Sometimes, the most dangerous place for a dad is a family vacation.
Bob Odenkirk returns as suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell in the new chapter of Nobody, the hit 2021 bare-knuckle action-thriller.
Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organisation and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs. Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (Connie Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids (Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath) on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the only place where Hutch and his brother Harry (RZA) went on a vacation as kids.
With Hutch’s dad (Christopher Lloyd) in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville, eager for some fun in the sun. But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator (John Ortiz) and his shady sheriff (Colin Hanks), Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, bloodthirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered (Sharon Stone).
