Special OPS 2: Himmat Singh & His Team Of Indian Agents Battle New Age Terrorism, Do They Win?

Spoiler Free Review: Special OPS 2 (Season 2/India/2025) Series

Trailer & Synopsis
An assassination and a kidnapping spark the beginning of an insidious war that can bring the nation to its knees. Himmat Singh (Kay Kay Menon) is back, and the enemy is everywhere.
The introduction

The show creator, Neeraj Pandey, has created another globe-trotting spy tale, where Indian Agents continue to carry out secret missions inside different foreign nations. Moreover, his fellow writers Benazir Ali Fida and Deepak Kingrani have painstakingly created the world of Indian espionage.

We loved the contemporary spy story, set in cyber age

As we increasingly move towards complex digitalisation processes in India, the threats of cyber-terrorism are not far behind. Especially, when the AI (Artificial Intelligence) is likely to become an integral part of modern warfare among nations, across the world. The integration of the bank scam story (example of the Nirav Modi case) in this spy tale brought out the key issue to the fore. Not to forget, what is fascinating about this storyline is the fact that in some of the spy missions, both Indian spies and their counterparts, Pakistani spies, work together to help each other out.

Kay Kay Menon looked natural while playing the leader of his spy squad

Kay Kay Menon plays the protagonist, Himmat Singh, with panache and substance. With his author-backed role, he has dominated and carried the entire series once again. His colourful (swear words) language adds a bit of realism, as most of us have come across similar law enforcement people in India. In this web of espionage, his role as Himmat Singh is like a magician, who is exemplary in using his mobile phone to pull the right kind of strings, to get the work done and missions accomplished. His mind is always engaged, even when handling three mobile phones at a time. Then, he does manage to juggle his personal and professional lives quite well.

But the rest of the ensemble cast is impressive and entertaining too

It is riveting to watch him pull off the improbable tasks at hand. On the other hand, Tahir Raj Bhasin plays the smart antagonist, Sudheer Awasthi, with rare ease. Furthermore, we liked the action-packed performances of Karan Tacker (Farooq Ali), Muzamil Ibrahim (Avinash), Vinay Pathak (Abbas Sheikh), Saiyami Kher (Juhi Kashyap), Shikha Talsania (Ruhani Sayyed), Tota Roy Chowdhury (Vinod Shekhawat), Vikas Manaktala (Abhay Singh), etc. Last but not least, we were impressed by the performances of these senior actors – Prakash Raj (Subramanyam), Parmeet Sethi (Naresh Chaddha), Kaliprasad Mukherjee (D.K. Banerjee), Arif Zakaria (Dr. Piyush Bhargav), etc. It was interesting to note the way that almost every character got ample time to showcase their acting talents.

The conclusion

Moreover, almost all the characters in this show exemplified the famous motto of India – “Unity in Diversity”. Thankfully, the show creator, Neeraj Pandey, has given us another peek into the original dream nation of India’s constitutional forefathers. Where people from diverse backgrounds are engaged in national building, honestly. It was fascinating to watch this globe-trotting Indian spy series, as the extensive shooting at different foreign locales by the cinematographers looked nice on screen. The editing did help this globe-trotting to maintain its fast pace. However, we did not like some of the fight scenes, as they did not seem realistic enough. If one can ignore those and a few uneven plotlines, the “Special OPS 2” is a good “paisa-vasool” entertainment show to watch.
