The Studio (Season 1/USA/2025) Series picked up the highest cache of the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards recently. We really loved this comedy-drama series. It satires the fairly well-entrenched studio culture in the Hollywood entertainment world. Besides, it offers a peek into the make-believe world of American movies.
We believe that most of the movie aficionados are well aware of the presence of the famous (or infamous) and powerful studio culture in Hollywood. So, what really pleasantly surprised us was the kind of powerful and consistent jokes aimed at the studio’s system based in Los Angeles. It is a hilariously insane show.
It Won 13 Emmy Awards, & That Broke All The Previous Record For A Comedy Show
Please note: The Studio series won a total of 13 awards at the 2025 Emmys. Thereby, it set a new record for the most awards for a comedy series in a single Emmy season. In the process, it broke the previous record of 11 awards by The Bear (2022) series at the Emmys. So, let us focus and review.
Spoiler Free Review: The Studio (Season 1/USA/2025) Series
The introduction
We watched this hilarious comedy-drama show a few months ago, for the first time. In fact, this 10-episode series was aired in March, April, and May. And, while watching it, we realised that this show is surely destined to win a bucket load of awards. But then it far exceeded our expectations this week at the Emmys. It is a record-breaking performance by the Seth Rogen-led show on Apple TV+. Therefore, today we have decided to review both the series and highlight its 13 Emmy Award wins in this article. We sincerely believe that its entire team deserves all the awards that are coming its way.
So, what is this comedy all about?
Well, as the official synopsis states, it follows a legacy Hollywood movie studio striving to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and business to live together. With so many competing demands of the creative art world of filmmaking, as well as the world of commercial blockbusters, the movie business is becoming a riskier business with each passing day. No doubt, only the outrageously insane characters, who love the movie world immensely, will live and thrive. And this is what happens with the legacy studio team led by Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) and his small team of studio executives.
As the chaos reigns supreme in this movie studio business, Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) is proactively assisted by his colleagues, Patty Leigh (Catherine O’Hara), Sal Saperstein (Ike Barinholtz), Quinn Hackett (Chase Sui Wonders), Maya Mason (Kathryn Hahn), etc. And, all of their crazy activities generate a lot of LOL moments.
This series reminded us of Irving Berlin's famous song | There's no business like show business, like no business I know...
As Matt Remick says, his work is as important as that of Doctors...
We loved the writing, directing, acting and other technical aspects of this funny show
All the show creators and the writers (named below) deserve a huge round of applause for maintaining the fairly high quality of comedy content in the show. Even though the show lasted for a little over 5 hours, we still binged-watched it again. There are ten (10) episodes in the first (1st) season, and we have shared their summaries below. To viewers like us, it seems that each episode is trying to outdo the others in terms of its humorous puns. And, in case we were asked to pick out our favourite episode, it would be a difficult task. Still, we think “The Golden Globes and CinemaCon” episodes are certainly at the top of the list.
Hollywood plays itself.
Dave Franco, Zoë Kravitz, Ice Cube, Adam Scott, Jean Smart, Charlize Theron, Paul Dano, Steve Buscemi, Martin Scorsese, Aaron Sorkin, Zack Snyder, Sarah Polley, Ron Howard...
There is no doubt that the casting for the show seemed to be perfect. The ensemble cast is in top comical form just like their characters. It is too much fun to watch them in action: Catherine O’Hara, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, Seth Rogen, and Ike Barinholtz. As they move and sleepwalk from one crisis to another, in ridiculously silly ways. But they are only the tip of the iceberg. Moreover, there are endless streams of surprise cameo appearances by some of the well-known faces of Hollywood. We have shared their names, in case you are interested to learn about the Guest Stars.
And the Emmys goes to
Not surprisingly, the writing team of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez picked up the Emmys. In fact, Frida Perez is the first Latina to win an Emmy in this comedy writing category. And then, Seth Rogen joined hands with Evan Goldberg to win the Outstanding Director award. But that is not the end of the road for the multi-talented Seth Rogen. Both Bryon Cranston and Seth Rogen have brought their A-game (of acting) in this show and won awards for their terrific performances. The kooky and frantic energy of Seth in this show, simply unbelievable. Do not forget to check the names of other winners.
The conclusion
We enjoyed all the moments in all ten episodes of the first season. The awards and accolades garnered by this witty skit about the Hollywood studio system suggest that both the critics and audiences loved it. We were definitely entertained by The Studio. Now, we eagerly await its next season of smart pandemonium.
