The Storyline
✅ This old-fashioned action crime drama stars the Hollywood tough guy, Sylvester ‘Sly’ Stallone, as the protagonist, Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi, the typical mob guy. So, 79-year-old ‘Sly’, being the so-called original gangster, brings back the persona of an action hero to our small screen.
We have grown up watching him in the movies like Capone (1975), F.I.S.T. (1978) and the film franchise like Rocky, First Blood, Rambo, The Expendables, etc. So, if you like watching ‘Sly’ on screen, then the ‘Tulsa King‘ is definitely for you.
✅ So far, in each of the three seasons of the show, a new and fresh antagonist (s) is introduced to challenge the might of the lead character, Dwight. And season 3 is no different. One more time, the power struggle takes place between Dwight and the other powerful guys.
You all know who wins in the end. It is obvious and predictable, indeed. For instance, in the earlier seasons, Dwight (Sly) took on the might of Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough) and Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo). But then, he defeated them and made a deal with them.
✅ And season 3 is no different. We meet the powerful and established family of Jeremiah Dunmire (Robert Patrick) and Cole Dunmire (Beau Knapp), who want to own and distribute the same ‘Bourbon Whiskey’ that Dwight takes over. Consequently, Dunmire and Dwight battle it out.
✅In addition to the senior Dunmire patriarch, Dwight also faces threats from two other powerful people. The first is the Special Agent Musso (Kevin Pollak), and the second is the dangerous Mafia leader, Quiet Ray Renzetti (James Russo). We expect to watch them in future seasons.
TK ~ Positives
➕ Notably, this present-day American tale also deals with the issues of corruption, the gun culture, the ongoing power struggle, the generational clash, and much more. In other words, it offers a peek into the interesting way the concept of the American Dream works.
➕ It is fascinating to watch how the lead character, Dwight, is building his business (legal and illegal) empire, brick by brick. And then, using his past Mafia life experience to build a bunch of ‘nobodies’ into a formidable team of ‘key players’ in his profitable commercial organisation.
The teams of writers mentioned below have done a fairly good job. However, we wish that they could surprise us in the upcoming seasons. Also, they could focus more on subplots as well as the lives of some of its key supporting characters. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
➕ Among the main cast, we liked the performances of Sylvester Stallone (Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi), Martin Starr (Bodhi), Jay Will (Tyson Mitchell), Garrett Hedlund (Mitch Keller), Dana Delany (Margaret Devereaux), Annabella Sciorra (Joanne Manfredi), etc.
➕ Now, this season 3 has brought in a fresh set of new actors who are equally impressive, viz., Robert Patrick (Jeremiah Dunmire), Beau Knapp (Cole Dunmire), Kevin Pollak (Special Agent Musso), Samuel L. Jackson (Russell Lee Washington Jr.), etc.
In fact, the entire ensemble cast has done a commendable job, as we enjoyed watching them on-screen. Especially, their banters and smart dialogues.

The Conclusion
So, is Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi back to his Mafia ways? Yes, most definitely, the violent and deadly gangster in him is alive and kicking very hard. We think, despite a few drawbacks, the Tulsa King, in its Season 3, continues to entertain us.
Now, like Dwight, we too eagerly wait for his next challenger (s) and their upcoming battle for supremacy.
