Series Synopsis

A master negotiator, Sam Nelson (Idris Elba), is faced with a series of life-or-death scenarios, where his persuasive skills are his only means of survival.

But, can Sam Nelson live to tell the tale?

Brief Storyline

First, let us recap a bit.

In Season 1 of the Hijack series, the protagonist Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) was caught in the midst of an Aeroplane hijacking of an International Flight. At that time, he used his intelligence and negotiating skills to survive the life-threatening plane hijacking and to stay safe.

Now, let us dive into the latest season.

In Season 2, the narrative centres on Sam Nelson two years after the above mentioned hijacking incident. In the present tale, the setting of the story is in Germany, primarily its local train transport.

To be more specific, this thrilling tale focuses on a hijacking of a Berlin U-Bahn (subway) train in Germany by the protagonist, Sam Nelson. And as a result, the lives of nearly a hundred innocent train passengers are at stake.

Notably, in Season 1, Sam Nelson was a mere passenger who was caught right in the middle of a plane hijacking. But, in complete contrast, Sam Nelson is the hijacker of a local train in Berlin.

So, what could be the reasons behind Sam Nelson’s train hijacking?

Is there a greater conspiracy at play?

If yes, then what is it?

This is what the suspenseful tale narrated in the following Eight Episodes tried to unravel.

Series Strengths

✅ Just like the Plane Hijacking scenes, the Train Hijacking scenes did manage to unsettle the viewers. The entire production team (writers, directors, composer, cinematographers, etc.) deserves a pat on the back for keeping us engaged in this mystery drama for almost two months.

This intriguing tale kept us hooked right until the big reveal, as to who was the mastermind and what was the conspiracy? So, you might like to take this bumpy train ride, as it is more about the brain power than the brawn power, again.

✅ Even now, the leading actor, Idris Alba, remains the main driving force in this series. As a protagonist, he dominates the entire series with his tall, dark, strong and handsome personality that we have seen in quite a few movies and series of the past.

Here in this series, he dons the persona of a cool and calculating negotiator who finds himself right in the middle of a major crisis and machination. So, the crux of the story is how he negotiates with such a grave situation.

✅ The acting performances of the main star cast, Christine Adams (Marsha Smith-Nelson), Max Beesley (Daniel O’Farrell), and Archie Panjabi (Zahra Gahfoor), remain steady and engaging. Although all of them had limited screen time, one more time, in this series.

Among the fresh and supporting star cast consisting of many new performers, we appreciate the performances of Christian Näthe (Otto Weber), Lisa Vicari (Clara Berger), Jasmine Bayes (Mei Tan), Christiane Paul (Ada Winter), Clare-Hope Ashitey (Olivia Thatcher), and others.

Series Weaknesses

❌ Somehow, when we compare the two seasons of the British drama, the story of the second (2nd) season falls slightly short as it seemed repetitive. In the first (1st) season, the shock and awe concept of the Plane Hijacking really took us by surprise, as that tale was nicely packaged.

However, in this second season, we remain clueless as to what really happened with the son of Sam Nelson (Idris Alba) and Marsha Smith-Nelson (Christine Adams) in this series. In addition, the backup story and the conspiracy plot remained incomplete, as we did not really get to see the full picture.

❌ Moreover, the antagonist (his identity was revealed in the season finale) stayed hidden for most of the time. And, the viewers were constantly told that he was some kind of devil incarnation and a very dangerous man. That he poses a grave danger to even the well-trained ex-military personnel. But, is it really?

However, we do not really get to see the deadly and vengeful side of the personality of the main villain. So, in a way, it remains a mystery as to how he could exert so much power and influence to force people to pull off a train hijacking.

❌ Also, the season finale felt a little underwhelming, as they failed to tie all the knots neatly. So, there are quite a few loose ends, even after the ending of season two. Are they saving the ‘reveal’ and the ‘flashback story’ for the future seasons? Well, we don’t know that for sure, as of now.

The Conclusion

So is the “Hijack” (Season 2, 2026) series worth watching? Well, to be honest, we picked this show to watch for Idris Alba (Sam Nelson), and he certainly did not disappoint us. His brooding personality in this season once again made this show a good series to watch. Furthermore, the German actor, Christian Näthe (Otto Weber), provided excellent support in this thrilling drama. And it was wonderful to watch the German actress, Lisa Vicari (Clara Berger), on screen. Last time, we watched Lisa in the fan favourite, “Dark” (2017-2020) series. To conclude, we can say that “Hijack” [Season 2] is an entertaining show to watch. Especially if you Idris Alba fan. Then, go ahead and enjoy it.
