Series Review [Spoiler-Free]: Landman (Season 2, USA, 2025-26) English
Tommy & His Family Face All Kinds of Challenges in Their Lives. So, What Are They Going to Do?
Synopsis
Set in the legendary boomtowns of Texas, Landman Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is a modern American dream tale of fortune seeking amongst roughnecks and billionaires in the world of oil. Notably, both the roughnecks and the billionaires are racing to amass wealth in the oil industry in the West Texas region. The lead character, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), is an oil company President who is facing all kinds of challenges, both in his personal and professional life.
[In the FM Series Review of the Landman (Season 1, USA, 2024-25) in our Focus Magazine, we had explained the meaning of the Landman, the title of this American show. So could we please recap once again?]
Landman & Roughnecks
A ‘Landman’ (or Landmen) functions as a liaison between oil exploration companies and landowners in the petroleum industry in the United States of America. The duties of Landmen generally involve researching county records, assessing mineral ownership, and negotiating leases for the Petroleum Oil company they represent. After the establishment of an oil (or gas) well unit, the landman’s responsibilities are complete. And then the drilling teams are sent to the site. Therefore, landmen constitute a specialised role within the oil and gas sector.
In addition, in this series set in Texas, you might find quite a few references to the ‘Roughnecks‘ or ‘Patchworkers‘ employed in the US petroleum industry. The Roughnecks serve as the indispensable, physically capable labourers on drilling rigs, operating heavy equipment, assembling pipes, and conducting important maintenance on the drill floor.

How’s Story?
In season 1, the writers spent the 10 episodes to drive home the point of the importance of the “Oil” industry in the world economy. In fact, the U.S. oil and gas market was estimated to be valued at approximately USD 1.61 trillion in 2025. And, no wonder, the current American President wishes to control the OPEC (Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) and/or the oil industry of the world.
[The oil sector produces an extensive variety of products, predominantly fuels such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and heating oil, alongside significant materials like asphalt, waxes, and lubricating oils, and vital petrochemicals employed in the creation of plastics, fertilisers, detergents, and pharmaceuticals, influencing nearly every dimension of contemporary life.]
Now, in season 2, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) has begun to reevaluate his professional life choices, more so after the sudden demise of his dear friend and boss Monty Miller (Jon Hamm).
Should Copper, Tommy, & Thomas (CTT) own an oil company? And what kind of life is Tommy going to choose, as the circumstances force him to make the tough decision, in the second season finale episode?
“If I got one more home run in me.”
~ Tommy Norris
Key Characters
In season two, the focus of the story shifts more towards Tommy and his family members. Together, they belong to three generations. All of them lead quite dramatic and fascinating lives. So, let us meet them.
| Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) | Landman & Protagonist |
| T.L. (Sam Elliott) | Father of Tommy, who is a retired Landman |
| Angela Norris (Ali Larter) | Wife of Tommy, who believes in YOLO (You Only Live Once) |
| Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) | Only son of Tommy, who is the next-gen of Landman |
| Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) | Only daughter of Daughter, who just joined college |
| Paulina Chávez (Ariana) | Cooper Norris’s love interest and fiercely independent lady |
It is worth noting that the family of Tommy Norris has been active in the Petroleum Oil industry for at least three generations in Texas. And, more specifically, they have been doing the job of a Landman for at least three generations. And perhaps, the show creators and writers, Taylor Sheridon & Christian Wallace, believe that the time is right for Norris to take the risk in the Oil field. Go big or go bust.
Now, let us meet the two rich and powerful people in this show. Both of them are clearly acting as the catalyst. They are responsible for pushing Tommy Norris to take the entrepreneurial plunge, finally.
| Cami Miller (Demi Moore) | Owner of the MTEX Oil and Boss of Tommy Norris |
| Gallino (Andy Garcia) | An influential Oil (+) businessman with very deep pockets |
Moreover, Tommy’s circle of friends, business colleagues, and other acquaintances also lead entertaining lives. Especially, the hot-shot-lady-lawyer Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace), who is a falcon, really.
What’s Good?
✅️ To repeat, it is absorbing to watch the melodramatic screenplay, which directly and indirectly illuminates the state of the petroleum oil business in Texas. We see the contrasting lifestyles of the people working in the oil industry in Capitalist America. The divide between the Petro Oil Business owners (with Private Jets and mansions) and oil-rig workers is stark.
✅️ Over the course of 2 seasons and 20 episodes, the growth and the character arcs of most of the key characters are an engaging watch. For instance, Cami Miller (Demi Moore) is trying to transform from a simple housewife to an ambitious and successful businesswoman. Meanwhile, both Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) are trying to make it big in the Petro Oil business.
✅️ While playing the lead character, Tommy Norris, the 70-year-old star, Billy Bob Thornton, has been very impressive. So far, in the two seasons, he has carried this drama with his captivating performance.
✅️ We also appreciate the performances of Sam Elliott (T.L.), Andy Garcia (Gallino), Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris), Colm Feore (Nathan), K.C. Clyde (Barney), and others.
✅️ Among the ladies, we loved the tough and independent-minded characters of Ariana. And the young American actress, Paulina Chávez, has put in an impactful performance too.
✅️ Not to forget, then there is the smart corporate lawyer character Rebecca Falcone, we saw the other side of her, the vulnerabilities. Also, the Canadian actress, Kayla Wallace, is quite good.
✅️ To add the ladies’ glamour, the show has been graced by Demi Moore (Cami Miller), Ali Larter (Angela Norris), Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris), Francesca Xuereb (Cheyenne), and others.
Family & Friends
This season is all about growing up and building strong relationships for the entire Norris family. The family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances are going to keep the Norris family going.
In the season 2 finale, the final conversation between Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and Angela Norris (Ali Larter) gives us their two contrasting takes on their present and future life, as they get older.
[Tommy: You know, honey, the time is coming when tragedy is gonna dominate our days. Maybe it's me, maybe it's cancer. Maybe my mind goes, I wake up one morning, and I don't have a clue who you are. Or god forbid, maybe it's you. Carwreck or whatever, you know. But not today. Today we win. Angela: Baby, I win every day. You do, too. You just don't see it. But it's there. I mean, it's all around you. Just got to take the time to notice. Like now. Like me...]
Tommy has a pessimistic, or should we say, a realistic outlook towards life in general. While his (ex) wife is more positive, as she likes to spread the happiness around. So, what does season 3 hold for them?

Conclusion
To sum up and conclude, season 2 of the Landman series is an interesting and entertaining drama to watch. And most certainly, we enjoyed all 10 episodes, some more than the others. Although, to be honest, the weekly wait for an episode was tiresome for us. This show definitely took its own sweet time of over two months to tell its story. And, for the second season in a row, we have got an interesting, riveting and cliff-hanger ending in the Landman series. Now, we have to eagerly await its next season.
No. You can’t have today, bud. Today is mine.
