Jailer is the action-packed 2023 Tamil movie that cashed in on the huge popularity of the superstar Rajni. So, Indian matinee idol Rajinikanth came, he saw, and he conquered big. Almost all the popular Indian ingredients – songs, dances, comedy, action, drama, romance, mystery, twists, turns, etc. are part of the film.
Notably, it is a typical Tamilian Masala movie by the Writer and Director Nelson. Once again, he has mixed all of the masala elements to give us mass entertainment in India. It is especially true for Tamil Nadu state, where the superstar power of Rajinikanth reigns supreme.

The synopsis
Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), a retired jailer, is now a family man who leads an ordinary life. Trouble knocks on his door when his son, a diligent cop, investigates an idol smuggling mafia. And forces Muthuvel Pandian to step back into the familiar, albeit dark world of his past. Can he emerge from this complex situation successfully?
The story of the Rajinikanth film
As disclosed above, its simple tale goes like this – Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) is a retired government official. Now, he leads a peaceful and contented life with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson. But, then his Cop son Arjun Pandian (Vasanth Ravi) who is investigating the missing temple idol case goes missing one day. The police authorities presume him to be dead. Now it is up to Tiger Muthuvel, to unearth the mystery. In addition, he also wishes to unmask the people responsible for his son’s disappearance. Besides, he wants to find out his missing son. Can the Tiger do all of these?
To be honest, however, this film relies too heavily on the broad shoulders of the protagonist Tiger (Rajinikanth) – the Thalaiva of the Tamil film industry. The antagonist Varman (Vinayakan) plays the role of a cruel and heartless villain, and he has done a good job.
Not the forget the comic relief provided by Vimal (Yogi Babu) and Blast Mohan (Sunil) characters.
What we liked about this film
The action sequences are imaginative. But sometimes, they do cross the lines. They are over a top variety. Sometimes, they border on extreme violence. Still, one has to agree that with this film, the Thalaiva delivers wholesome entertainment for the masses and his adoring fans.
The hit music of Anirudh Ravichander in this film also helps the film. Furthermore, the Writer and Director of this film – Nelson delivers another hit.
The mega star power of Rajinikanth dominates the entire film and the conclusion
So, in this action-oriented Indian film, its simple script takes the backseat, as it relies heavily on the star power of its cast. Which is led by the superstar power of Rajinikanth (Tiger Muthuvel Pandian) and ably supported by the cameo appearances by big and well-known stars like Ramya Krishnan (Vijaya Muthuvel Pandian), Mohanlal (Mathew), Shivarajkumar (Narasimha), Jackie Shroff (Kamdev), Tamannaah Bhatia (Kamannah), etc.
The conclusion
No doubt, this revenge film, with its predictable twists and turns, boasts quite a star power. To conclude, it is a good Indian Masala Film to watch to pass one’s free time. More so, if you are a fan of Rajini, Sir.
