In the “Damsel”, Princess Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) is in distress, but the lady fights back courageously. Also, a fire-breathing Dragon makes an appearance in this American film.
This 2024 movie is based on the 2023 Damsel novel by Evelyn Skye. In her revolutionary twist on traditional fantasy, a courageous young woman (damsel Elodie) confronts the formidable dragon single-handedly. “Once upon a time…” the usual fairy tale of our childhood days was turned on its head in this novel and film, quite literary.

Spoiler Free Review of the Damsel (2024) Movie
The introduction
In this imaginative take on the fantasy story, the unusual sinister machination dominates the film’s storyline. In addition, the popular stereotyping about – Stepmothers, Prince Charming, Bad Dragons, Happily Ever After, etc. has been debunked in the movie. However, the ending in the film is slightly different than that of the said book.
Extra info. about its storyline
Damsel Elodie is a loyal and obedient individual, who willingly accepts the proposal of marrying a charming prince. However, her perception takes a drastic turn when she realizes that this entire scenario was cunningly orchestrated to ensnare her. The royal family cunningly conscripts her as a sacrificial offering to settle an age-old debt. Consequently, she finds herself thrust into a treacherous cave, inhabited by a fearsome dragon capable of spewing fire. Her survival hinges solely on her intellect and determination in this dire situation. And, not to forget, a little bit of positivity and lady luck.
We found a major hole as well as inspiration in its storyline
Usually, we do not use harsh words while reviewing any movie in our Focus Magazine. So, we are not going to start now. But we cannot help but share the plot holes with you all.
Basic premises of its plotline seem questionable – (hole) Spoilers Alert
After watching the film, we wondered aloud that there is no necessity to wed princesses (Elodie and others from around the world) when they can select any ordinary girl and perform a blood ritual by cutting her. Thereby mixing their blood to scam the blood-thirsty Dragon. The central concept of engaging in a marriage charade seems utterly pointless and illogical to us.
First scene between Elodie and Dragon – (inspiration) Spoilers Alert
The first time Elodie comes face to face with the dragon parallels the interaction between Bilbo and Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) film.
Two more scenes involving the Dragon – (inspiration) Spoilers Alert
We think, two specific sequences of the “Dragon” in this film bear a resemblance to the “Game of Thrones” (2011-2019) Series.
In the first instance, damsel Elodie is seen walking in the shadow of a dragon, which is reminiscent of Daenerys Targaryen.
And then in the second instance, the final scene, Elodie navigates the seas on a boat (traditional wooden ship), accompanied by a dragon unfurling its wings nearby.
Maybe in future, we shall share our review of the “Game of Thrones” show. Meanwhile, you can check the prequel of the same “House Of The Dragon” series.
The conclusion
In the end, Elodie accompanies her sister and stepmother back home, where she now affectionately refers to her stepmother as “mother” in a touching moment. The dragon gracefully flies beside their ship, an unexpected companion in Elo die’s journey towards maturity. We are sure that the younger generation of movie-goers, who are fans of “Dungeons & Dragons” movies or “GOT” or “House of The Dragons” series in the past, will like this. It is a completely time-pass entertaining fantasy film and we liked it.
