Deadpool & Wolverine (2024/USA) Movie Review

Deadpool & Wolverine is an unusual kind of superhero buddy comedy. Besides, the typical actions, Deadpool’s colourful language and Wolverine’s dry humour take centre stage in it.

In 2018, Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox resulted in the film rights for all X-Men characters, including Deadpool, reverting to Marvel Studios. The Deadpool & Wolverine film was released in 2024, and it coincided with the 50th anniversary of Wolverine‘s debut in The Incredible Hulk #180, which first appeared in 1974.

The synopsis

The listless life of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is suddenly interrupted when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) seeks his help in preserving the multiverse. However, he opts to enlist a variant of Logan aka Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to prevent the annihilation of his universe. So, Deadpool tries to ally with his potential comrade, Wolverine, to carry out the mission and shield his reality from an impending existential crisis.

So, how did the initial seed idea of this movie take shape?

“I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan (Reynolds). For Deadpool & Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, When I said I was done, I really thought I was done. But in the back of my head, ever since I saw ‘Deadpool‘ 1, I was like, ‘Those two characters together.’ I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew. And I literally couldn’t wait to arrive. Soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan (Reynolds). And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.'”

This Sci-fi action movie is overflowing with so many hilarious jokes

This movie is certainly not packaged as the usual family movie by Marvel. While watching this R-rated Marvel Entertainment movie, we had to hear so many foul-mouthed dialogues from Deadpool that we lost count. Therefore, we did the next best thing. Enjoy the wild ride, along with the funny aspects of the deadpan humour of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Elliot Chipman: That's Deadpool.

Kevin Chipman: That's Wolverine.

Deadpool: You damn straight it is. Fox killed him. Disney brought him back. They're gonna make him do this till he's 90.

But that is not all.

This film does not hold back. While poking fun at the Hollywood movie studios like Fox, Disney, and others. Besides, both of them take wisecracks at Marvel, Avengers and others.

Then, there is always the bonus.

Keeping up with the Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) regular dosage of banters and jokes, even the serious-minded Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) starts paying in the same coins.

Wolverine: You know what? You're a fucking joke. No wonder the Avengers didn't take you or the X-Men, and they'll take fucking anyone. I mean, you are a ridiculous, immature, half-wit moron. I have never met a sadder, more attention-starved jabbering little prick in my entire life, and that says a lot because I've been alive for more than 200 fucking years, and I'll tell you, that bald chick was right about one thing: you will never save the world! You couldn't even save a relationship with a goddamn stripper! Motherfucker, I wish I could say you'll die alone, but it's one of God's best jokes that you can't die, except that's on ALL OF US!... Well, you got nothing to say, mouth?

Deadpool: I'm gonna fight you now.

Wolverine: [laughing] Oh, are you?
[Deadpool punches him in the face, leaving a bloody nose]

The conclusion

A word of caution, unlike Ryan, watch this movie only with your friends, not with family members. The dialogues in the movie are inundated with so many profanities and obscene language that after time you start to carry on enjoying it. Even, the infectious cuss-laden charm of Deadpool starts to rub off on Wolverine. Their unusual pairing is the highlight of this Marvel movie. No doubt, that it is an R-rated movie that offers a rough ride, which is enjoyable because of its unique content, VAR theme and interesting storyline. Maybe, that is what, the moviegoers crowd loved Deadpool & Wolverine.
