Spoiler Free Review: Gullak (Season 4/2024) Series

The storyline/plotline/summary/synopsis

When the first season of the “Gullak” series set in crime-infested Uttar Pradesh state was released way back in the summer of 2019, we were pleasantly surprised by its story of a middle-class family. In those days, our screens were inundated with violence-ridden movies/series set in Uttar Pradesh, a North Indian state. For example, the popular “Mirzapur” series was dominating with its central theme about the infamous Bahubali(s). So, it did not come as a surprise, when the makers of Gullak highlighted its family-comedy-drama as the unique selling point (USP) of this heartwarming show. Check out the official plotline of this show for its first season. In case, you want the summary of its episodes then check the spoilers shared below.

The short descriptions

Season (1) One

What do you expect stories from a small town in the heart of North India to be like?

Filled with shades of grey, petty crime, sorrow and stories of revenge?

You couldn’t be further from the truth and Gullak will show you how.

Set in quaint by-lanes in the heart of India, Gullak is a collection of disarming and relatable tales of the Mishra family. Join Santosh Mishra (Jameel Khan) and Shanti Mishra (Geetanjali Kulkarni), their sons Annu (Vaibhav Raj Gupta) and Aman (Harsh Mayar), as they savour the many flavours of small-town life with a smattering of humour, wit and of course, ladlefuls of love. Anchored by their enduring Gullak, the Mishra family tackles work woes, new parenting dilemmas and everyday life with wit and humour.

Season (2) Two

Sardiyon ki narm dhoop jaise kisse lekar, aa raha hai phir ek baar, ‘Mishra Parivar’!
Inse milne aaeyega zaroor…sah parivar.

Like the soft sunshine of winter, it is coming once again with stories, ‘Mishra Parivar’!
Please come and meet them… along with your family.

Season (3) Three

Badhaai ho!
Mishra parivaar mei dusra savings account hua hai!

Congratulations!
There is a second savings account in the Mishra family!

Season (4) Four

Lekar zindagi ki khanak, Aa rahee hai naye kisson ki Gullak.

With the sound of life, a piggy bank of new stories is coming.

Posters of the four seasons of the series

In the last five years, the Misra family have not only grown but they have made sure that we fall in love with each of them: father Santosh Mishra, mother Shanti Mishra, elder son Annu and younger son Aman.

We loved that they have maintained the high-quality of its content

According to the official (and unofficial) estimates, the population of the middle class in India lies somewhere around 400–500 million people. And by any given standard this is a big population chunk. But quite often the day-to-day struggle and problems in the lives of ordinary middle-class folks do not get enough screen space. The personal tales of the Mishra family members and even the neighbour Bittu’s mother (Bittu Ki Mummy/Sunita Rajwar) are heart-warming.

We are sure that many middle-class folks will certainly identify with their daily life tales. So, one of the most heartening aspects of this contemporary show is that it focuses on the individual stories of a simple family of four belonging to a middle-income group. After watching the four seasons of this lovely show, so far, we appreciate the high content quality that they have maintained. The script and storyline are so good that they often make you emotional and identify with these realistic characters.

The conclusion

Once again, we reiterate, that the writing and script not only we have loved its fun-filled content but also the acting of its main cast members. These main actors looked very natural while playing the four family members – Jameel Khan (Santosh Mishra), Geetanjali Kulkarni (Shanti Mishra), Vaibhav Raj Gupta (Annu), and Harsh Mayar (Aman). Even the snooping neighbour Sunita Rajwar (Bittu Ki Mummy) has been impactful in limited screen time, and we liked every moment of her acting. The relationships among each of them have been beautifully explored and portrayed on the screen. In the past, India used to have high-quality family comedy drama shows like – Nukkad and Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi; and this Gullak reminds us of those two hit series. To conclude, if you are looking for light hearted family series from India, then go ahead and watch it. Enjoy!
