The synopsis/summary
This limited show centres on the cyber intrusion of a sleeper train en route from Glasgow to London, prompting a government agency to engage in a desperate attempt to control the escalating crisis on board. Is it possible for two strangers, one aboard the train Joseph ‘Joe’ Roag (Joe Cole) and the other, Abigail ‘Abby’ Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach) not on the train, to unite their efforts to protect the varied passengers as the Heart of Britain overnight service speeds towards a fate that could be its last?
The poster
Alexandra Roach plays the female protagonist Abigail 'Abby' Aysgarth in this show. We have seen her in series like Bodies (2023), Killing Eve (2020), Sanditon (2019), Black Mirror (2017), etc.
Also, Joe Cole plays the male protagonist Joseph 'Joe' Roag in this show. We have seen him in series like Gangs of London (2020-2022), Peaky Blinders (2013-2017), Black Mirror (2017), etc.
It has a good ensemble cast
The ensemble cast consists of Alexandra Roach (Abigail ‘Abby’ Aysgarth), Joe Cole (Joseph ‘Joe’ Roag), Remy Beasley (Megan ‘Meg’ Hooton), Parth Thakerar (Saj Sidhu), Lois Chimimba (Erin Connolly), Scott Reid (William ‘Billy’ McCloud), Katie Leung (Rachel Li), Ruth Madeley (Christina ‘Chrissy’ Doolan), David Threlfall (Paul ‘Pev’ Peveril), etc. Almost all of them did a fairly decent job in this engaging drama. But, it seems that many of them were let down by a dodgy script and underwhelming dialogues.
It needed further tightening of the script to make it a more believable tale
Interestingly, while watching the Nightsleeper (2024) series, we were reminded of the Speed (1994) movie. Both of them are based on similar themes and premises of hapless passengers caught inside the “Overnight Train” and the “City Bus” respectively. And in both cases, two lead protagonists (Hero and Heroine) join hands to save the passengers. But, the similarities between the two ends here.
The Nightsleeper show needed a much smarter and more cohesive script. We liked the various twists and turns in the show, however, some of them were quite predictable. Then the mystery of the hacker(s) involved in the hack-jacking (as mentioned in the show) was very well concealed, right up to almost the last scene of the final episode. They could (or should) have tightened the script to make it a more believable and thrilling tale.
The conclusion
Despite some of the negative issues that we mentioned above, the Nightsleeper mini-series is a watchable series to pass your time. We liked the surprise ending of the show.

Ending Explained | Who hack-jacked the Train?
Who was the mysterious villain?
During the final moments of this limited series, Paul ‘Pev’ Peveril (David Threlfall), the former Technical Director of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), confesses to his successor, Abigail ‘Abby’ Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach), that he was the brain and architect of the hack-jacked the said Train.
So, why did he hack-jacked the said train?
Paul ‘Pev’ Peveril was opposed to the idea of the complete privatization of the public railway system in the United Kingdom (UK). When Pev became aware of this issue, he understood that he needed to intervene. So, the impetus behind his well-planned actions was to educate the authorities and to obstruct the total privatization of the rail network in his nation.
