The synopsis/summary
In 2018, the “Stree” movie introduced us to a unique blend of horror and comedy, drawing inspiration from a real-life occurrence. The narrative unfolds in Chanderi, a town plagued by the mysterious disappearance of men. Is ‘Stree’ the entity responsible for their vanishing? Who is this figure, and what are her intentions?
In 2024, the “Stree 2” movie follows the occurrences depicted in the “Stree” movie. The town of Chanderi finds itself once more under the shadow of a haunting. This time, a fearsome headless figure is responsible for the mysterious abduction of women. Once again, It falls to Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and his friends to confront this menace and safeguard their town and loved ones.
“Stree 2” film has a good mixture of comedy and horror
Like the original film, the latest Maddock film has a good mix of comedy and horror. In one scene one is laughing and in the next scene, one is introduced to the Srakata (Sunil Kumar plays a headless ghost) in the film. Undoubtedly, The “Stree 2” has added many surprise elements and a few guest stars in this emotional roller coaster ride. Still, it is a light-hearted movie, perfect for all those who love this kind of comedy-horror mixture.
While watching this film in a packed movie theatre, one can hear almost every kind of instant reaction by the audience. And that kind of collective enjoyment by the houseful halls propels this entertaining film forward. That is what the pandemic adversely affected. No wonder, this film has crossed the ₹200 crore mark in its box office collection globally.
Kudos to the writer, director, and the ensemble cast members
The writer Niren Bhatt has written a smart script. The dialogues in the movie are funny and contemporary, they make you laugh out loud, LOL. Then for the second time (after Stree), the director Amar Kaushik takes this fascinating script and makes it an enjoyable film. We liked the twists, the turns, the surprises and the fast-paced narrative. However, we did not appreciate the shoddy special effects. In this age of amazing tech., we expected much more realistic-looking terrifying ghosts.
The ensemble cast led by Rajkummar Rao (Vicky), Shraddha Kapoor (Unnamed Woman/Stree Ghost), Pankaj Tripathi (Rudra), Aparshakti Khurana (Bittu) and Abhishek Banerjee (Janna) have been wonderful to watch. The strong friendship bond among Vicky, Rudra, Bittu and Janna has been delightfully explored. Also, it was fun and engrossing to see the unlikely lead pair of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in this film. We liked their on-screen chemistry and comic timing too.
The conclusion
Unlike the “Stree”, the “Stree 2” film is pure commercial cinema which does not deliver any subtle social message. So, this is an out-an-out Hindi masala movie only entertains.
