Ballerina-From The World Of John Wick ~ Review

Ballerina-From The World Of John Wick (2025/USA) is a thrilling but typical action-packed Hollywood movie. The film story primarily focuses on a top-notch female assassin, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is following in the footsteps of another legendary hitman, John Wick (Keanu Reeves), as she seeks personal revenge.

Notably, in this globe-trotting action-packed drama, when these anti-heroine Eve (or anti-hero John) takes on the world by themselves, there are bound to be far too many casualties. But who is counting the bodies? Not us. Especially when a lady hitman is killing the bad guys and taking down a criminal enterprise.

“Ballerina-From The World Of John Wick” Tries To Recreate The Action Magic Of The Original Flick. But Did It?

Spoiler Free Review of the Ballerina-From The World Of John Wick (2025/USA) Movie

The introduction

In October 2023, we reviewed a Korean revenge drama movie, “Ballerina” (2023), in our Focus magazine. Now, we are reviewing the American revenge drama movie, Ballerina (2025), here. So, one might have noticed the use of the extended movie title “Ballerina-From The World Of John Wick“, mainly to differentiate between these two movies that have the same title. So, at the onset, before we proceed with its review, let us clarify that the Hollywood movie is slightly ahead of the Korean movie. And the high-octane stunt scenes and action sequences from this Hollywood flick did try to reach the high standards of the John Wick movies.

The story is predictable, with a few exceptions

Like the original film, the story of this movie is straightforward revenge drama, too. Their reasons may be different, but both the lethal hitman John and the deadly hitwoman Eve are out for revenge. They operate in a highly secretive world of crime, which has its own set of rules and regulations. However, one thing is certain. The dangerous people (or the villains) who dare to stop them either most of them end up dead or badly injured. Of course, there are a few surprises in its plot. For instance, we did not think that we would see the fight scene between Eve and John in this film. So, their crossover was a pleasant addition for us.

Ana De Armas is the new action heroine in the pacy thriller

We loved that a female protagonist is a one-person army, Eve Macarro, who is convincingly portrayed by the lead actress Ana de Armas. In the elaborate and well-choreographed action sequences, we liked watching Ana take on the physically stronger male opponents in this film. It is worth pointing out that, like handsome actor Keanu Reeves for the mainline John Wick movie franchise, beautiful actress Ana De Armas did most of her stunts for this film. In this film, she used all kinds of weapons. Moreover, most of her fight scenes looked credible. And she looked cool while performing complex action scenes.

So, besides Ana, the entire team of fight shots directors and stunt personnel of this movie deserve a pat on their backs. The Cuban-American actress Ana is certainly making her mark in the highly competitive world of cinema by doing a variety of roles. We enjoyed watching her kick some assess. And we want more.

The conclusion

To be honest, both the quality of the movie as well as the box-office performance of Ballerina did not match up with that of John Wick. However, it still belongs to the highly successful action movie franchise, John Wick. So, hopefully, we should see more of the Ballerina movie sequel in the future.
