Trailer & Synopsis
Veteran lawyer Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) represents Raj Nagpal (Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub), found holding the murdered body of nurse Roshni Saluja (Asha Negi) after his daughter's birthday. As the courtroom battle intensifies, buried truths begin to surface, suggesting not everyone is who they claim to be. One murder victim, two prime suspects, and everyone belongs to the same family. It's up to Advocate Madhav Mishra to unravel this 'straightforward' case. This time there are not two but three sides of the truth. It is the most complicated case of Mishra Ji's career!
The introduction
In this Indian legal drama, “Criminal Justice: A Family Matter”, the prosecutor Lekha Agastya (Shweta Basu Prasad) represents the government (Mumbai Police) to establish the defendant Raj Nagpal’s (Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub) guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. On the other hand, the defence lawyer Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) stands for the accused Raj Nagpal, working diligently to safeguard their rights and to raise questions about the prosecution’s evidence. Moreover, another senior lawyer, Mandira Mathur (Mita Vashisht), takes up the case on behalf of her client Anju Nagpal (Surveen Chawla). So, who is the murderer? And why did murder happen?
We liked the riveting storyline
One of the highlights of this “Criminal Justice: A Family Matter” show is that we get to watch the intricate courtroom proceedings in this Indian legal drama. Despite the serious subject matter, this show has a fair sprinkling of comedy scenes. And this is what makes it an absorbing show to watch. Besides, the numerous twists and turns in its storyline are one of the most intriguing aspects of this suspenseful murder tale. Thankfully, the story is neatly tied in the finale episode of the fourth season. Even the sad justification for the murder seems to be rational.
Pankaj Tripathi lends his unique charm to the protagonist
The seasoned actor Pankaj Tripathi (Madhav Mishra) carries the entire season on his broad shoulders. His character Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) is a street-smart lawyer, whose heart is in the right place. Moreover, we like his tête-à-tête with his on-screen wife Ratna Mishra, superbly portrayed by Khushboo Atre. Do watch their on-screen chemistry in this YouTube video. Both of them are a typical middle-class couple who are hustling to make it big in the city of dreams, Mumbai. But despite many lucrative offers on their table, they still carry on with their middle-class values. And this is what makes them endearing characters.
Once again, the ensemble cast has done well
We also liked the performances of its ensemble cast, especially Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub (Raj Nagpal), Surveen Chawla (Anju Nagpal), Asha Negi (Roshni Saluja), Shweta Basu Prasad (Lekha Agastya), Mita Vashisht (Mandira Mathur), Aatm Prakash Mishra (Deep), Kalyanee Mulay (SI Gauri Karmakar), Barkha Singh (Shivani Mathur), Amruta Sant (Kamla Jadhav), etc. The character of Anju Nagpal is very well written by the series writers, and Surveen Chawla has surprised us with her fascinating performance. Then there is Kalyanee Mulay, who portrays SI Gauri Karmakar with a lot of sensitivity.
The conclusion
Of late, we have watched a bunch of good Indian legal dramas. And certainly, “Criminal Justice: A Family Matter” is one of the engrossing crime shows to watch. And, we are certain that many viewers will be surprised by its shocking ending. But its much-talked-about ending uplifts the show and makes it a good show to watch. Little doubt, we enjoyed watching it, as Indian family members are willing to go to unprecedented lengths for their loved ones. Perhaps, this is what a strong Indian family bond is all about.
