Positive Points
✅ If we remember correctly, we watched and reviewed Dil Dosti Dilemma (Season 1/2024) Series, focusing on a Muslim Family, a year ago. These are rare instances indeed.
✅ It is not very often that we get to see a different perspective in the mainstream Indian media. So, it is like a breath of fresh air that we get to meet the charming members of The Great Shamsuddin Family.
✅ The film raises quite a few burning issues sensitively. For instance, an intellectual writer (Bani) is trying to move out of India because of active threats, the interfaith marriage, mob-lynching, corruption, etc.
✅ Quite a few progressive ideas were depicted in this movie. So, in a way, the liberal characters of the Shamsuddin Family manage to break quite a few stereotypes of Muslims in India.
✅ It is heartening to note that the present-day story of the movie is dominated by strong and decisive female characters. Their quick wit and comedic scenes were fun to watch, really.
✅ The performances by the entire ensemble cast, names above, are quite dramatic, indeed. As a whole, it is absorbing to watch all of them act in sync, like a real Indian family.
Kudos to Anusha Rizvi
These days, in the so-called New India, we rarely come across a mainstream Hindi movie that focuses on a liberal, urban, well-educated Muslim Family story. So, kudos to Anusha Rizvi for writing, directing and in general making this entertaining film about a typical middle-class Indian family living in Delhi. Deep down, we know that strong family bonds usually exist in the majority of Indian families.
The Shamsuddin Family is no different from other contemporary Indian families. For instance, one could see the common thread in the families of India, viz., the relationships, the emotions, the mindsets, the ethos, the problems, the challenges, etc. Usually, the matrilineal (and patrilineal) hierarchy of kinship is deeply respected. Besides, an easy and natural affinity exists between Muslims and Hindus.
While watching this relatively short Indian film, which is approximately one and a half hours long, you may notice several positives in this well-written and well-directed movie by Anusha.
We think it is an apt and smart film to watch in New India.
It might help us understand, as to what we have lost as a unified society and a strong nation.

Conclusion
The best thing about The Great Shamsuddin Family is that it is a positive movie. Moreover, it ends on a happy and optimistic note. Hopefully, everything will work out for Zoheb, Pallavi, and the other members of the entire Shamsuddin Family. Also, we expect the protagonist, Bani, to make the right choice in the end, while picking between her dreams and her family. Fingers crossed. In the era of big-budget and government-supported propaganda movies, it was a wonderful experience to watch the small but sweet Shamsuddin Family film, which is about an ordinary Indian middle-class family, full of love and respect.
