Movie Synopsis

Two estranged half-brothers, Jonny (Jason Momoa) and James (Dave Bautista), reunite after their father’s mysterious death. As they search for the truth, buried secrets reveal a conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart. 

Simple & Predictable Storylines

Well, to be honest, “The Wrecking Crew” film is a straightforward and expected tale. The story of this Hollywood flick can be explained in the following bullet points.

• Two half-brothers are too angry with each other.
• But then, the tragic death of their father happens.
• One of the brothers believes that the death of his father is a suspicious murder case.
• While the other brother disagrees with his half-brother.
• But when they discover the harsh truth, they unite in this buddy movie.
• And together, both sons take down the armed and dangerous villains involved in their father’s killing.

In other words, it is a simple tale of revenge and vengeance. Wherein, both the brothers (seen above and below in the pictures) are busy fighting a good fight in this buddy comedy action film.

Targets Action Movie Aficionado

When this Hollywood movie boasts of two established action stars, Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, then what else can you expect? Besides the movie title, “The Wrecking Crew”, perfectly describes them as the “destructive duo”.

Right at the beginning of this film, the characters of these two badass brothers, Commander James Hale (Dave Bautista) and Jonny Hale (Jason Momoa), were established as tough and courageous guys. While one of the brothers is a US Navy SEAL instructor in Hawaii, the other is a Rez Cop in Oklahoma. And, it seems that both are well-versed in all kinds of hand-to-hand combat scenarios. Moreover, they are professionals in using various types of guns.

Consequently, one can expect a lot of action in this film. We personally liked some of the high-quality and very well-choreographed fight sequences in the film. In this two-hour-long film, they have included the intense hand-to-hand combat scenes, the sword/knife fights, the smashing cars (vehicles) scenes, the attack from an armed helicopter, the gunfights, and so much more. We think the action movie aficionado will definitely like all of them.

One of the action highlights of the movie is when Dave, Jason, Valentina and Pika were attacked by a helicopter and a bike gang, when they were returning from the airport in a van. This action scene was simply awesome to watch.

In fact, the cinematographer and visual effects really excelled in almost all the action scenes. Not to forget, all the stunt performers were quite impressive too.

Healthy Dose of Comedy

In this buddy drama, “The Wrecking Crew”, there is quite a bit of humorous banter between the two lead characters, Dave and Jason. Both of these characters take a lot of potshots at each other, just like a real life siblings.

James (Dave): You blew up my car.

Jonny (Jason): I blew up their car, and then it landed on yours... Whoa!

James (Dave): They just blew up your car.

Besides, the two lead actors, the other characters also infuse comedy into this action film using smart dialogue. For instance, the local police Detective Rennert (Stephen Root) perfectly describes Dave and Jason in a scene.

I can’t have two guys who look like they eat steroid pancakes for breakfast, turning my (Hawaii) island into Beirut… Now you two stop doing this wrecking crew shit…

In addition, the colourful character of Pika (Jacob Batalon) does add humour to all the scenes, including the tense ones. Then, the glamorous character of Valentina (Morena Baccarin) adds her witty remarks, too.

Pika (Jacob | tells the two brothers): Okay. Split up. You guys look like The Rock screwed himself and had twins.

Conclusion

One thing to note is the open-ended ending of the film. It surely suggests that we are going to see more of this kind of escapist movie from this hunky duo in the future. And of course, that will be based on similar movie formulas. Possibly, both sons unite again to search for the killer of Jonny’s mother and once again wreak havoc. To conclude, if you are looking for an action-comedy movie to pass your time, then “The Wrecking Crew” is a good movie option.

One does not have to tax their brain with the complexities, as two sons find the killers of their father and punish them. And, we enjoyed this action-comedy-packed Hollywood popcorn flick.
