It is based on Holly Jackson’s award-winning and best-selling 2019 novel of the same title ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder‘. The storyline/plotline/synopsis/summary
The murder of high school senior Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies) by her boyfriend Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni), followed by his suicide, was a topic of constant discussion. Even after five years, the tragedy continues to linger in the town. Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) is uncertain about the circumstances surrounding Andie Bell’s death, leading her to believe there is more to the story. Now, determined to uncover the truth and identify the culprits, Pip embarks on a quest five years after the incident in the quiet English town.
Tale of Gen-Z: their families, friends & foes
The layered subject and murder theme of this six-part series are aimed at young adults. Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) is the protagonist of this crime thriller series. Her unwavering bravery and sheer determination helped her uncover one of the biggest murder and disappearance mysteries in that small town in England. Of course, her family and friends did help solve the murder cases. More often than not, it always comes down to the troubled family(s) versus the stable family(s) of these youngsters.
Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) comes from an emotionally stable and loving family. But the same cannot be said about the culprits. Even though this tale is about the Gen-Z and their complicated lives, we enjoyed watching it.
A nod to Sherlock Holmes & Dr John Watson?
As we mentioned above, Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) not only solves crimes but also helps the police catch the criminals. Mind you, these killers seemed like ordinary individuals. They were hiding in plain sight. But then, so-called young Detective Pip unmasks them with her bold perseverance. No wonder, in one of the scenes from the series, Pip claims to be a world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes. But then, she needs a worthy partner to carry out the investigation. Luckily, she finds an able partner (like Dr Watson) in Ravi Singh (Zain Iqbal), as both of them prise open the cold case with their youthful energy and gumption.
One of the things to admire about this series is that it has a whole lot of twists and turns in its plotline. And we did not anticipate quite a few of them. So, it was fascinating to watch them piece together the various information and reach a logical consequence in solving the murders. Also, in this series, we liked the performances of these young actors – Emma Myers (Pip Fitz-Amobi), Zain Iqbal (Ravi Singh), Asha Banks (Cara Ward), Yali Topol Margalith (Lauren Gibson), Carla Woodcock (Becca Bell), etc.
The conclusion
We watched this fascinating crime drama in one sitting and enjoyed it. Now, we will eagerly await the next crime investigation series of Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers), as the source material already exists. Till then, stay safe.
