Aavesham is a blockbuster masala movie from India. In this Malayalam film, the hugely talented actor Fahadh Faasil (Fa Faa) reigns supreme and towers with his superstardom.
Last year, we reviewed another Fa Faa film – JOJI in our Focus Magazine, and we were impressed with his acting performance in that. Similarly, in this Aavesham film, he plays another negative character in his unique style. His larger-than-life gangster character is being loved by his huge fan base.

The storyline/plotline/synopsis/summary
The narrative of the movie kicks off as three teenage college students, Shanthan (Roshan Shanavas), Bibin (Mithun Jai Shankar) and Aju (Hipzster) arrive in Bangalore to pursue their engineering education. However, on the college campus, they find themselves entangled in a conflict with the senior students. In their quest for retribution, they seek the assistance of a notorious local gangster named Ranga (Fahadh Faasil aka Fa Faa), but their cry for help leads to complicated situations in their lives. Little did they anticipate the series of unforeseen events that would unfold after their encounter with him, leading them on an unexpected journey.
The movie offers an escape to its viewers
Right now, our mundane lives have been besotted with many problems and challenges. Then, not to forget, at present, there are so many wars being fought around the world. So, many innocent people in thousands are being killed by the well-oiled war machines. Yet we see no consequences and repercussions. No wonder, we (common moviegoers) wish to get away and escape. We need distractions to take us away from the pain and suffering in the world. So, one of the cures is to watch well-cooked masala movies from India.
And we did just that. For almost two and a half hours, we had an unadulterated fun. The problems faced by three college freshers seemed so inconsequential. Yet, they went ahead and made it worse. That is life for you.
So, what did we love about it?
Fahadh Faasil aka Fa Faa as Ranga.
The protagonist Ranga is an anti-hero in the film. Being a violent leader of the gang of hooligans, he has committed all sorts of heinous crimes including murders. And that should make his character a despicable one. But such is the aura and screen presence of Fa Faa in the movie, that he owns the limelight, whenever he is in the movie frame. His facial expressions do not let the movie viewers take their eyes off his captivating acts.
We all know that it is a typical masala movie from India. Thus, it is an almost predictable light-hearted and fun-filled action-comedy drama aimed at the consumers of mainstream Indian cinema.
The story is predictable for most parts. However, when Fa Faa is on the screen, a sense of unexpected anticipation takes over among the viewers. His unpredictable behaviour keeps everyone tense. And most of those times, we expect the worst from him. That is the beauty of his performance. Honestly, we have to admire Fa Faa for charming us with this mass-entertainment film. He has even surpassed our expectations with his delightful dancing skills and thrilling action sequences in the film. The fight scenes are well choreographed too. We have shared videos of the vibrant Malayalam songs that we liked, so do not forget to check them out.
We also liked the actings of the actors who played three college students, Roshan Shanavas (Shanthan), Mithun Jai Shankar (Bibin) and Hipzster (Aju) in the film. Also, Sajin Gopu (Amban) played Ranga’s sidekick perfectly.
The conclusion
Thankfully, this year we are getting a varied yet interesting bunch of very well-made Malayalam (language) movies – Premalu and Bramayugam.
Now Aavesham joins the list too. This mass entertainer is a blockbuster.
