Originated from the Role-Playing Game (RPG)
Actually, Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson created this RPG, which has inspired this film too. It is based on the tabletop role-playing game, which is very popular among its dedicated fans. The Wizards of the Coast, which owns this RPG game, made stat blocks for the main characters. So, that block shows their abilities and attributes. Moreover, the Forgotten Realms creator Ed Greenwood loved this movie. He said it was a film that its fans could be proud of without having to defend the game to non-fans.
Despite not being involved in the production or credited for his work, he further stated that he planned on seeing it multiple times, and he was also happy to see his creation adapted faithfully on the big screen. And we at FM agree with Ed.
Now, let us get back to this movie
However, it is worth noting that this particular film has no connections to the past three film trilogy, viz., Dungeons & Dragons (2000), Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (2005) and Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness (2012). On the other hand, set in the Forgotten Realms, it is an independent stand-alone film. Although we think that the Dungeons & Dragons film should be developed into a successful film franchise in the future. The visual effects teams, consisting of CGI and VFX teams, have made a fantastic movie. It is an action film that takes us on an epic adventure tour in a dreamland.
We liked the comedy in it
There are a good number number comedy scenes and one-liners in this film. So, we have shared one of the video clip links of the funny scene from the film below. We liked the funny dialogue uttered by its characters. Also, the dialogue from one of the hilarious scenes is shared below, wherein they visit a graveyard.
[In one of the scene from this film, the lead characters can ask a revived corpse five questions before it dies again and their talks goes like the following] Edgin: Were you killed in battle? (Q#1) Corpse: Yes. Edgin: Great! [to Simon] Edgin: Four more questions, right? (Q#2) Corpse: Yes. Edgin: No, no, no, that wasn't for you. [to Simon] Edgin: Did that count as a question? (Q#3) Corpse: Yes. Edgin: Dammit! Only answer when I talk to you, okay? (Q#4) Corpse: Yes. Simon: Why did you say "okay?" at the end of that? (Q#5) Corpse: I didn't. [lies back in its coffin, dead] Edgin: Fantastic. Where's the shovel?
A brief note about its cast
The endearing characters played by Chris Pine (Edgin) and Michelle Rodriguez (Holga) are lovable. These two lead actors have regaled us with their charming and delightful acts in this film. However, they play two unlikely friends who come together to raise Chloe Coleman (Kira) in it. Kira is a young teenage daughter of Edgin in their nuclear and unconventional family. Also, their presence makes it a warm and adorable film fit for family viewing because of its raw emotions. Although we wish that they could have tightened their script more.
In addition, the other supporting members of its ensemble casts, namely, Regé-Jean Page (Xenk/Paladin), Justice Smith (Simon/Sorcerer), Sophia Lillis (Doric/Druid), Hugh Grant (Forge/Rogue), Daisy Head (Sofina/Wizard), etc., have done well.
So, on the other hand, they all have added their performances supported by Chris, Michelle and Chloe’s acts.
The conclusion
All the characters make significant acting contributions to make it a fun-filled fantasy movie. As a result, it is one of the most entertaining films of 2023, perfect for family viewing.
