Blackout is a thrilling comedy film and as the title suggests, the key event revolves around a period when a major electric power failure occurred in Pune, leading to a total loss of lights.
So, following the complete darkness descending into Pune (Maharashtra), the life of the protagonist Lenny D’Souza (Vikrant Massey) too starts stumbling into utter chaos. Furthermore, he finds himself getting deeply entangled in criminal activities. And despite his best efforts, he continues to sink deeper into the proverbial quicksand.
“Blackout” Is A Funny Yet Typical Masala Potboiler From The Hindi Commercial Movie Industry

The storyline/plotline/synopsis/summary
As darkness falls over Pune’s streets, crime reporter Lenny D’Souza (Vikrant Massey) is drawn into a world of mystery, greed, and misfortune. Lenny makes a fateful decision to keep a case of stolen jewels in a bid to change his ordinary life. Yet, his luck takes a dark turn when he becomes entangled with a dangerous gangster. How will he navigate his way out of this dangerous situation?
In the past, we have seen actor Vikrant Massey playing the protagonist and excelling in the 12th Fail (2023) movie. So, we decided to have a look at another movie of his.
What did we like about it?
The story writer and director Devang Shashin Bhavsar has tried to surprise us (the viewers) with its intriguing tale. The majority of the accidental events in this movie take place during one night. So, in this fast-paced crime drama, the script of the film tries to spring one-surprise-after-another.
While some of the twist-and-turns were predictable, the bunch of others were not. Devang has tried many things to make it an amusingly entertaining film. And, no doubt, he has made a decent time-pass film. The main cast of its ensemble, Vikrant Massey (Lenny D’Souza), Sunil Grover (Bewdya), Karan Sonawane (Thik), Saurabh Gadge (Thak), and Mouni Roy (Shruti Mehra) have tried hard to keep the fun-filled comedy going. The rest of the cast also played their parts well to add to the comedy.
Also, we have seen actress Chhaya Kadam entertainting us with her emotional role in the Laapataa Ladies (2024) movie as well as playing the comical role in the Madgaon Express (2024) movie.
What did we not like about it?
It is a typical masala commercial Hindi movie that does not like to stick to logic and rationale. So, one should not expect some kind of high-brow cinema, like a couple of Hindi movies mentioned above.
Besides, this film has somehow failed to utilise the comical talent of Sunil Grover (Bewdya) in it. Also, it seems that the role of Mouni Roy (Shruti Mehra) has not been written properly, wish she could have done more.
The conclusion
We think this film is perhaps meant only for the die-hard fans of Vikrant Massey and Sunil Grover. No doubt, the ‘Blackout’ is an amusing yet typical masala movie, aka the commercial potboiler from the Hindi movie industry. Still, despite its flaws, it is a good time-pass movie that amuses its viewers but does not tax one’s brain cells unnecessarily.
