KGF (1 & 2) movies are India’s full-course hot masala films. They originally shot and released these two chapters of action-packed films in the Kannada language of Karnataka.

Please note that the “KGF” is an acronym for Kolar Gold Fields. Since 1881, Kolar has been a significant gold mining centre. Also, both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 movies narrate the life story of the protagonist Rocky (Yash). He is an ambitious criminal who snatches and takes control of the rich gold mining business. And then with time, Rocky becomes an all-powerful and dominant force in the world of crime.

Synopsis

Set in the 1970s, an ambitious young man Rocky Bhai (Yash) sets out to fulfil a promise he made to his dying mother by bringing the owner of a corrupt gold mine (Kolar) to book.

Brief comment

This typical masala movie from Southern India (Karnataka) is deliciously spicy and we loved it. This movie has an almost perfect mix of romance and action drama. Nowadays, the blockbusters like this film from Karnataka are doing so well in North Indian states. Perhaps, it is the dawn of a new era in the world of the Indian movie industry, especially those originating from the Southern states of India.

In the post-COVID pandemic years, the movies as well as series in South Indian languages are being well received by viewers from other parts of India. It seems the age of subtitles and dubbing in different languages has come of age, in recent years. This mass entertainment film has been dubbed in many different languages of India, including Hindi. So, its commercial reach expanded into new geographical areas.

Focus on the bonus info.

  • It is the first Kannada movie to be released in 5 Languages, namely, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. It bodes well for the future.
  • It became the first Kannada film to cross 100, 200 and 250 crores of Indian rupees at the box office.
  • It is the first Kannada language movie to receive a theatrical release in Pakistan, although the said movie was its Hindi-dubbed version.
  • In this film, Rocky Bhai’s favourite weapon is the metal sledgehammer. It seems that its makers are inspired by WWE superstar legend Paul Levesque (Triple H), as he also uses the sledgehammer.

Synopsis

Rocky (Yash) survives the attack by Vanaram’s guards after killing Garuda. He is a hero and a saviour to the people of Narachi. While trying to fulfil his promise to his mother, he must face many obstacles in the form of Adheera (Sanjay Dutt), Inayat Khalil and Ramika Sen (Raveena Tandon).

Brief comment

We like that with this film, its creators have tried to expand the geographical reach of the movie by roping in popular Hindi movie actors like Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon with pan-India appeal. And it has worked to its advantage, as it became a blockbuster once again. Not to forget the fact they continued to use a similar and successful movie template in its Chapter 2 too, as they did in its Chapter 1 in the past. Another enjoyable and money’s worth (paisa-vasool as we say in Hindi in India) movie from Karnataka.

Focus on the bonus info.

  • It was the most expensive Kannada film to date, with a budget of 100 crores. The Kannada film was dubbed in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages.
  • In this movie, Adheera’s (Sanjay Dutt) character look is inspired by Ragnar Lothbrok‘s (Travis Fimmel) character look from the Vikings series.
  • It is Yash’s first movie with Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon.
  • It was the top 10 popular Indian movie of the year 2022.

About – KGF Chapter 2 film

We liked this dialogue

Here is one of the most famous dialogues said by the antagonist of this movie – named Adheera.

तलवार चला कर खून बहा कर, जंग लड़ना तबाही नहीं, तरक्की होती है!
उसमें लाशें भी बेकार नहीं जाती, चाहिए तो गिद्धों से पूछ ले!

The swing of a sword and the splash of blood in a battle is not to destroy, but to progress!
The fallen corpses there are useful too. If you are in doubt, ask the vultures!

Adheera (Sanjay Dutt)

To sum up, here are our final comments

If you wish to have a sumptuous meal of full-course South Indian masala movies, then watch both of these KGF films – Chapters 1 and 2. Like us, the masses adored the famous lines in these movies (dhansu-dialogue-baazi as we say in India) and the unbelievable action sequences shot by their stars. The fresh setting of this tale is matched by stylish and solid content. In case you love Indian masala movies, and you have not watched them yet, then go ahead, watch them and enjoy.
