The Family Man: A Chaotic World Of An Indian Spy, Who Is Hiding Secrets…
Spoiler-Free Review: The Family Man (Seasons 1 & 2) Series
The Synopsis
An edgy action-drama series, with a dose of satirical humour, The Family Man tells the story of a middle-class guy, Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee), a world-class spy who works for a special cell of the NIA (fictional National Investigation Agency?) of India. While he tries to protect India from terror threats, he also has to protect his family from the impact of his secretive, high-pressure and low-paying job. Thus, The Family Man Srikant Tiwari tries to balance his familial responsibilities and the tough and dangerous job at the NIA.
A typical middle-class family man
Many middle-class families, especially middle-class family men from India have closely identified with the storyline of The Family Man. The protagonist’s (played by Manoj Bajpayee) amazing balancing acts between the two demanding jobs – both at home and the office is fascinating.
It portrays the charming juggling acrobat of a spy stationed at the (NIA) National Investigation Agency in India.
India faces many threats and challenges
India is a vast democratic country with amazing diversity among its people as well as its geographical terrain. No wonder, since gaining its independence in 1947 from the colonial rule of the British Empire, India (a sub-continental nation) has faced many threats and challenges to its existence.
Thus this contemporary spy drama delves into the chaotic risks that India faces as of now, whether in Jammu, Kashmir, Tamilnadu, Mumbai, Delhi, etc.
What did we love in this show?
With its tight scripts and directions, this series takes a fascinating peek into the Indian spy world. Also, the ensemble cast of The Family Man has done a commendable job with their respective roles.
The chemistry among its actors in its various scenes is wonderful to watch, especially between Manoj and Priyamani (as spouses) as well as between Manoj and Sharib (as Srikant and JK – two spies in NIA) colleagues.
Not to forget the single-minded villains – Neeraj Madhav (plays Moosa Rahman) in season one and Samantha Ruth Prabhu (plays Raji) in season two.
However, special mentions of Priyamani (plays Suchitra Tiwari) and Shahab Ali (plays Sajid) must be made here because of their good screen presence. We loved the entire ensemble cast of this series, as many of them have done an admirable acting job.
The conclusion
The Family Man has captured the imagination of its viewers with its two captivating seasons. There is no doubt that it is a great spy tale from India. And it is indeed a complete Indian masala series that mixes all kinds of genres in it. Don’t miss out and watch it, in case you have not seen it, as yet.
