The introduction
Kindly allow us to briefly share and introduce the contextual background of this humourous Hindi film. In a real-life news report, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI of India), Vijay Mallya, a fugitive businessman, purchased properties worth crores of rupees in England and France during the fiscal year 2015-16, despite the financial troubles faced by his Kingfisher Airlines at the same time.
So, rather interestingly, the owner of Kohinoor Airlines is called Vijay Walia (Saswata Chatterjee) in this fictional “Crew” film, If you are aware of the true incident, then you can easily piece together its plotline.
The basic storyline/plotline
In this comic drama, a trio of ordinary air hostesses from Mumbai embark on a voyage to pursue their dreams but find themselves ensnared in unexpected misfortunes. Kareena, Kriti, and Tabu portray these three daring air hostesses who become entangled in a gold smuggling scheme to make some easy money, having endured months of unpaid wages from their airline company.
What did we love in it?
We loved the satirical take on the plotline of the film. It is interesting and insightful script.
It is an ongoing classic tale of the “middle class” (or the relatively poor class) versus the “wealthy class” in India. Especially in contemporary times, when the extreme inequality in India is a matter of grave concern.
Last year we watched both Tabu {Khufiya/2023} and Kareena Kapoor Khan {Jaane Jaan/2023} playing a bunch of serious chracters.
So, it was a welcome change to see them in comedy.
And you know, it has been a while since we watched the beautiful and talented actress duo Tabu (Geeta Sethi) and Kareena Kapoor (Jasmine Kohli) captivating us with their magical screen presence. It is Kareena’s comedy film after a long time. They are very supported by young and gifted actress Kriti Sanon (Divya Rana) in this fun-filled ride in a proverbial entertainment flight. It is Kareena’s first movie with Kriti Sanon and Tabu. The other members of its ensemble cast are wonderful too, especially, Rajesh Sharma (Pruthviraj Mittal) and Trupti Khamkar (SI Mala) in the playful film. All of them were a delight to watch, as their comic timing seemed perfect and fun to watch.
The movie’s peppy numbers have become a big hit among the listeners. We also liked the mixture of Punjabi (Diljit Dosanjh) and Hindi (Badsha) pop in one of the songs, you can check out their videos below.
The conclusion
It is heartening to note that female-centric movies like “Crew” and Laapataa Ladies (2024) Film are being made in India. For a change, we loved the no-hold-barred dialogues and bold actions of the glamorous trio. In a way, it is liberating to watch these three spunky women take charge of their chaotic lives and even challenge the influential and wealthy bosses. Maybe the desperate times call for desperate measures by the three crew members. So, go right ahead, fasten your seat belt, and take a bumpy and turbulent flight into their playful middle-class lives. Enjoy!!
