The basic storyline of the film
Well, in this film, an international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart), race to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet. Do they succeed in the heist?
That is the core theme of the Lift film. Please note that here we will not be sharing the detailed storyline of this drama. The major portion of its heist is set on the Aeroplane.
The simple and predictable plotline
The simple and predictable plotline ruins the well-intentioned heist theme. Then there are not much of twists and turns in the film. We are certain that even the so-called surprise ending of the film can be guessed by many viewers. Wish that its writers and directors could have come up with fresh materials in it.
The talented ensemble cast but…
Some of the names in the cast just pop out because of their engaging work in the past. For instance, to name a few of them, Kevin Hart (protagonist Cyrus) is known for his comedy. Then Úrsula Corberó (Camila) was superb in the Money Heist (2017-2021) Series. Not to forget Jean Reno (antagonist Jorgensen), who has given us movies like Leon (1994), Ronin (1998) and Call My Agent (2020) Series. We wish, its writers and director could have used the talented ensemble cast in a better way.

Lift is the usual run-of-the-mill stuff. Not a high-quality heist film, but still it manages to entertain you. More so if you put aside your criticism away. In a way, it is like popcorn. Perhaps, it is a good film to pass your time after a hectic day or week. So, you relax, take it easy, put your feet up and enjoy the certainties of this film. A bunch of Hollywood films of the past inspire this 2024 heist movie.
We think this film is similar to “The Italian Job (1969 & 2003)” film. The opening scenes in both films begin in the city of Venice. Then the daylight robbery takes place. The robbers escape on the speed boat and the boat chase ensues. Also, the main heist is about stealing bars of gold.
In addition, it seems that two other films, named below inspired two other aspects of the mid-air heist:
- Rough Cut (1980) Film – the two jets are flying nearby, and then one of the planes takes an active part in the heist.
- Heist (2001) Film – the swapping of the gold loaded on one of the flights with another flight cargo on the plane was done in it.
Lastly, like the Ocean’s Eleven (2001) Film, the heist crew targets a wealthy and powerful adversary. So the antagonist is Jorgensen (Jean Reno) in this Lift film.
