The [official] story of this show

In this K-Drama, the protagonist Kim Ji-Yong (Nam Joo-Hyuk) is a diligent and brilliant student at the police academy. However, during weekends, he assumes the role of a vigilante to apprehend wrongdoers who evade the reach of the law. His moves, which were given the name Vigilante by the broadcaster reporter Choi Mi-Ryeo (Kim So-Jin), garnered the attention and cheers of the public, and Jo Gang-Ok (Lee Joon-Hyuk) appeared, a big fan and second-generation heir of a conglomerate. In response, Jo Heon (Yoo Ji-Tae), the leader of the Metropolitan Investigation Squad, initiates a pursuit of Vigilante.

But, did Kim take to vigilantism?

Please note, that it is based on the information provided by the original webtoon creators.

When Kim Ji-Yong (Nam Joo-Hyuk) was a boy, his mother was murdered. The assailant was tried in the court of law but served a mere three and a half years because he “deeply regrets his actions.” 17 years later, Kim Ji-Yong is a college student, studying to become a police officer. But on the weekends, Ji-Yong hunts down ex-convicts released by a justice system that has failed to protect the victims, taking justice into his own hands to make up for its shortcomings.

The creators of the show depict that the scales of lady justice are skewed, so the Vigilante is here to restore balance.

So, what do we like in this action-packed K-Drama?

Not so long ago, we reviewed another action-filled web series “Bloodhounds” from South Korea. We loved that show, which had two action stars. The “Vigilante” show is equally good, but it seems, the series named above has a slight edge over this show. Mind you, the difference is only slight. And we liked both the Korean series.

One of the things that we liked about the show was that the actress Kim So-Jin (Choi Mi-Ryeo) plays a strong female character. And then, we get two action stars – the agile Nam Joo-Hyuk (Kim Ji-Yong) and the muscular Yoo Ji-Tae (Jo Heon) too. Both are good in the action sequences. Kim is the original Vigilante guy, who is joined by Jo in the later part of the story. And there is Lee Jun-Hyuk (Jo Gang-Ok) too, he is an aspiring vigilante.

The conclusion

No doubt, the story of this show goes along the predictable line. But, the freshness of action scenes is welcomed by us. We liked the Asian martial arts flavour to it. It is an entertaining series. Now, the ending of the series suggests that there is more to come in the future. Most likely, Kim, Jo Heon, Jo, and Choi might join hands to actively pursue acts of vigilantism in season two, in case they are planning it. Till then, watch the first season of this K-drama and get your fill of the well-executed action scenes. Enjoy!
