The Family Plan movie is a fun-filled but predictable tale. If one can put aside one’s hyper-critical attitude for a few hours, one can enjoy this Hollywood action comedy film.

The majority of this film was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America. But, we get to see other scenic beauty of the USA, as we undertake a road trip with the Morgans.

Synopsis of The Family Plan (2023) Movie

Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) loves his quiet suburban life as a devoted husband, father of three and successful car salesman. But that’s only half the story.

Decades earlier, he was an elite government assassin tasked with eliminating the world’s deadliest threats. When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan and takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas.

Determined to protect his family — while treating them to the vacation of a lifetime — Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity.

The introduction

While watching “The Family Plan (2023)” film, we were reminded of another Hollywood film from the past “True Lies (1994)” of the past. That movie has Arnold Schwarzenegger (Harry Tasker), and even his wife Jamie Lee Curtis (Helen Tasker) was clueless about the amazing spy skill sets. Now, this latest 2024 film has taken this premise a step further.

So, in this film, the hero Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) is a former top assassin living incognito as a suburban dad. His unsuspecting wife Jessica Morgan (Michelle Monaghan) does not know about his past life. But the dangerous people from his violent past catch up with him and his unsuspecting family, he has only two options. Firstly, to spill his secretive past details with his family members, then stay back, and fight back. Or secondly, to keep silent and meanwhile, escape with his family to a safer place. He chose the second option.

What did we like in this film?

The actor Mark Wahlberg (Dan Morgan) is good in the film, but the actress Michelle Monaghan (Jessica Morgan) is better. She steals the scenes with her wit and charm. Even the young actors – Zoe Margaret Colletti (Nina Morgan) and Van Crosby (Kyle Morgan) performed well. Overall, we liked their acting in this film. Wahlberg is fit as a fiddle and looks wonderful with his chiselled muscled body. Touch wood! No puns are intended.

When you're a former assassin, there's no such thing as a simple trip to the grocery store. Especially, when you have your kid with you.

But, then the cute kid actors Iliana Norris and Vienna Norris (Max Morgan) outperform everyone. Their naughty acts, playful smiles and loud laughter win your heart.

We like this popcorn entertainment for the entire family. It is like a comfort food for many of us. More so at this year’s end. The beginning of the holiday season. The family fun time.

Many of its jokes and one-lines are funny too. Especially the “Van” name one, lol.

What did we not like in this film?

The story is quite predictable. The film’s ending is foreseeable too. We just wished for a few more surprises in the film. That would have added depth to it. Sometimes, we felt that Mark Wahlberg (Dan Morgan) was not performing at his usual best in this movie. No doubt, we did not like his lack of energy and intensity in a bunch of scenes. Then there are a few goof-ups in this movie, for instance, the references to the women’s decathlon instead of the heptathlon event, the roller coaster, etc.

The conclusion

Check out family trip scene. Ice-Ice Baby. Nice-nice. Good Vibrations.

However, one could ignore all of the things mentioned in the above para. As they do not have a major impact on its storyline and its entertainment values. This Hollywood formulaic action comedy flick has been a breezy entertainment for the family. So, this holiday season, it is a decent movie to watch with the family. And perhaps strengthen the family bond, too.
