The introduction

In 2024, the action film aficionados welcomed “The Beekeeper” with lots of enthusiasm and support. Just like they did so with the other action films of the past year, for example, John Wick, Fast X, Extraction 2, Plane, etc. There is no doubt, that the action films have a dedicated fan base. So, not surprisingly, this film with well-choreographed action scenes has done well at the box office. This film is not sweet like honey, still, we too enjoyed it.

Adam Clay (Jason Statham): I was bringing her a jar of honey.
Agent Verona Parker (Emmy Raver-Lampman): Who are you - Winnie the Pooh?

The storyline

Adam Clay, portrayed by Jason Statham, earns his livelihood as a beekeeper. Unfortunately, someone dear to him falls victim to a deceitful (online/internet fraud) scam, leading them down a destructive path. Unbeknownst to these individuals driven by greed and a thirst for power, Adam Clay is not just an ordinary beekeeper.

Agent Verona Parker (Emmy Raver-Lampman): I believe you. But there are laws for that.
Adam Clay (Jason Statham): There are laws for that. Until they fail. Then they've got me.

He is an agent operating within a covert program known as Beekeepers. Underestimating his capabilities, they fail to recognize the immense danger he poses. Driven by a burning desire for retribution, Adam embarks on a relentless and ruthless mission to track down and eliminate those accountable for the tragic event.

What did we like in this film?

The story of the film is fairly predictable. However, that only adds to its appeal. We wanted the good guy to win against the bad guys who hide behind phones and computer screens. We think, among the average movie viewers, many might have faced some kind of internet fraud in their lives. A few of them might have lost money and peace of mind too.

Adam Clay (Jason Statham): Stealing from an elderly person is like stealing from a child. In some ways it's worse. When someone hurts a child, there are people who care, parents to step in. When someone hurts an older person, they are often left to face the hornets alone.

So, when the principled hero Adam Clay (Jason Statham) identified the greedy (online seamsters) villains, many of us were rooting for Adam. Our baser human instinct wanted him to punish the bad people. In a way, Jason manifested our anger and frustration towards such lopsided systems of online fraud. Jason played this angry man role to perfection. And, the other actors and actresses did not have much to do in it, except to support his film.

The conclusion

The writer Kurt Wimmer and the director David Ayer have maintained the fast pace of storytelling. And Jason’s dogged and single-minded pursuit of justice is fascinating.

Adam Clay(Jason Statham): I'm a Beekeeper. I protect the hive. Sometimes I use fire to smoke out hornets.

We liked this simple and plain tale. The open ending of the film suggests that we might see this character “Beekeeper” in future too. It is not a lengthy film, it is a plus. So, go watch it.
